Re: Chops & Portofino?

ABSOLUTELY worth it! Chops has amazing service and perfectly prepared steaks and side dishes. It's like getting a $50/pp meal for $20. Same goes for Portofino. The food in the main dining room is good considering they are serving 1,500 people. But it is more like catering food than a fine restaurant. The food in Chops and Portofino is more individually prepared. Live it up and book them both. I reccomend doing it for Carribean night.

Chops has a typical steakhouse menu. Fillet Mignon, NY Strip, Sirloin, Prime rib, etc. They also have side dishes of potatoes (huge), spinach, broccoli, asparagus, salads, etc.

Portofino has a typical italian menu.

Book em early so you can get the time you want.

btw.. I assume your taking Navigator or Mariner. I don't think they retrofitted Chops into the other voyager class ships.

ENjoy!

Thanks for the info., we are sailing on the Mariner of the Seas 12/7. One more question, do you tip the service staff in Chops, or is it included in your weeks tips? We are new to cruising. Also, how do you know which night is caribbean night?
Thanks again!

You can and should tip the service staff seperately in Chops. You can do it right on the bill where they give you a place to add a gratuity. I reccomend going up to Chops the first day and ask the manager there. They usually are familiar with the main dining room menu.

Enjoy!

I agree that the $20 is worth it IF the dining room menu doesn't appeal to you on that night. We just got back from the Radiance and our meal in "Chops" was comparable to the $100+ meal (for 2) we just had in Vegas the month prior.

By all means go to Chops! Make your reservation as soon as you get on the ship, so you do not miss out!

I agree, chops is very good and well worth the extra coins.

Portofino is also a great idea... If you like really fine "modern" Italian dishes, Portofino is also a great choice. The service in both restaurants is so precise and perfect, you will love it. They pamper you in Portofino from start to finish. Its a great experience.

Re: Chops & Portofino?

What ships have both chops and Portofinos?

Here is my web page that has the daily menu broke down by each day. The menu is used fleetwide so the same thing served on the Voyager is served on the Mariner.

Also Here is the menu for Portofinos.

As far as I know, Navigator is the first ship to offer Chops. I assume Mariner will offer it as well. I don't know what plans, if any, there are to retrofit other ships with this option.

Re: Chops & Portofino?

Radiance class ships were the first to offer Chops. The Navigator is the first Voyager-class ship to offer Chops. And I would anticipate that Chops Grille will also be on the Mariner as it is such a huge HIT!

Re: Chops & Portofino?

I believe all of the Radiance class ships have both restaurants, side by side, on deck Six.

Seriously considering Radiance class for my next trip.

Jason, me too...thinking about the Jewel of the Seas out of Fort Lauderdale in 2005. Sounds like a long way away, but it will take that long to save it up!

Re: Chops & Portofino?

how long does it take to eat in portofino or chops compared to the dining room?

SamIAm October 16th, 2003 01:52 PM

Re: Chops & Portofino?

Give it 2 to 2 1/2 hours in either Portofino or Chops. The dining room is right about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Portofino is very good ... Chops is exceptional!
