Default Which dollar should I give?

I was wondering today if the people I would be tipping would appreciate the new "gold" $1 coins or if they'd prefer the regular paper dollars? I know everyone in my family likes to collect them, but I don't know if others would be as facinated.

Any opinions?

TIA,
Chig

From what I have heard on the boards they have to keep the money in their room so I would use paper. Besides it weights less.

I would also use the paper dollars. I have friends that work on ships and it's sometimes difficult to spend the dollar coins or the $2 bills in some ports. Even if the US dollar is accepted, some places won't take the coins or the $2 bills. Personally, we even had problems with the new $20 bills in Nassau in late October. The casino at Atlantis wouldn't take them.

Paper money is the best. As the above poster commente $2 biils are not always excepted.

I give the gold $1 as a keepsake to the crew I enjoy as the waiter room steward etc, along with the tips.

Default More tipping questions!

Hi - you are obviously a big fan of cruising - I did it once on a small ship (Seawind line) and hated it - hopefully Serenade of the Seas will be better!

My question is - if we wish to have room service (breakfast especially!) on our balcony, do we tip the waiter who brings it on the spot as in hotels, or is this one you keep until the end of the cruise?

Also, do you know if the "suggested" figures for tipping are in $U.S or $C?

We sail on January 24 - coming up fast! Thanks for your help! VW

You should tip the room service waiter when he brings your order..just a couple of bucks......Suggested tipping amounts are usually in USD.
