Default Port Canaveral suggestions

I am planning my second cruise (this time aboard the Mariner...first cruise was on the Carnival Conquest out of New Orleans). I read in one review that it is a frustrating hassle getting from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral. I am planning on arriving in Orlando the day prior to the ship's departure. Does anyone have any suggestions from their own experience about transportation from the airport to the port area (taxi? rental?). Also how far is the airport to the area? And does anyone have a recommendation for the overnight hotel stay?

Everyone's prior comments have been so helpful.

Thanks!
Ellisha

Hi there,
Try the "Super Shuttle" or Mears Also, there are a ton of places to stay. Try the website www.SEE-Floridasbeach.com and click on Orlando etc. it's only about 30 minutes to 45 depending on traffic to the Port. Enjoy

Hi,

We got a rental car from Avis from Orlando airport the night before the cruise and returned it in Cocoa Beach the day of the cruise. We did the same on our return trip. Last year we used Hertz. Both companys have a free shuttle that goes from Cocoa Beach and the pier. This link will provide more info.

We also took a cruise from Port Canaveral, on Sovereign though, and we arrived a day early. We stayed in Melbourne which is about 1/2 hour south of Port Canaveral. It's an easy drive to get to the port, right up A1A and right into the Port! Many hotels to choose from, we stayed at the Radisson Suites. Decent rates.
Only about 1 - 1 1/2 hours from Orlando airport.

What we did was rented a car at Budjet at Orlando International airport. And drove straight to Port Canaveral the day before our cruise aboard the Mariner. We stayed at the Raddisson Resort at the port, right across the street is McDonalds and we ate there in the morning. And dropped off our rental car off at Cape Canaveral that is about 30 seconds from the resort. And you can see the ship at the Resort because your so close.
