Default Portifinos/ Chops

I have several questions concerning specialty restaurants on board the Mariner.

1) Does anyone know what nights are formal nights on Mariner 7 day Western Caribbean?
2) Should a person make reservations for Portifinos/ Chops immediately when they board the ship in order to get in on the day/ time they wish because they fill up fast? Or is it pretty easy to get reservations?
3) Is it worth the $25.00 extra per person? Why?
4) How is tipping handled in those restaurants? Or is it included in the $25.00? If not included in $25.00 do you give a cash tip or can it go on your ships credit account?

Thanks Libby

Hi Libby,

Don't know what the formal night sare but ....

-- Yes, make reservations as soon as you board. That way you can get the nights and times you want. We went to both on Radiance on the two formal night so that we wouldn't have to get too dressed up.

-- We thought the experience was worth it, especially at Chops. Not only was the food a cut above the regular dinning room offerings, but the service and atmosphere was truly special.

-- I was told that the tip is included in the fee, but it was such a great expreienced that we tipped anyway. And we did put it on our sign and sail card.

We ate at both Chops and Portofinos on Radiance and very much liked Chops but we were not impressed with Portofinos. Chops filled up quickly so the sooner you reserve, the better. It was only $20/person when we sailed last Feb. I didn't know it had gone up.

I believe it is $20 + tip. Well worth it. The food in the main dining room is ok but both of these restaurants offer much better! Best to book it right away when you board. Either call from your stateroom or go in person. They will be able to tell you which nights are formal. They even have a schedule of the main dining room of which themes are on which nights to help you decide the best night to go.
