We are staying at the Radisson in downtown Miami the night before of cruise. Has anyone stayed there before? Are there plenty of things to do within walking distance such as restaurants, clubs etc? Could you also comment on the hotel in general?
We stayed there for two nights before our Voyager cruise in December. You will have to take a cab to get around, as the area around the hotel is not an area you would want to walk around at night. It's about a 5-minute cab ride to Bayside (a fun marketplace with lots of stores and restaurants) and about a 10-minute cab ride to the pier. A 15-minute cab ride will take you across the causeway to either South Beach or Miami Beach, depending which causeway you take.
We liked the hotel very much. Our room was clean and nicely furnished, and the hotel was quiet. We had a view of the port. The lobby area was very nice. The hotel has a little rooftop pool that I visited for one afternoon. It was nothing special, but hey, it was better than being at home in 20-degree weather. The hotel also has an exercise room featuring a good selection of dumbbells, a universal weight machine, a treadmill, a couple of bikes, and a sauna.
Radisson has just taken over this hotel and when we were there, they were renovating parts of it. Probably by the time you arrive, these renovations will be complete.
In short, it is a fine place to stay for a night or two before your cruise. If the weather is good and you want to hit the beach, I recommend calling the Eden Roc hotel in Miami Beach and asking if you can use their facilities for the day. Our friends stayed there before the cruise-- gorgeous beach, huge swimming pool, and fun beachside cafe/bar-- it is a great place to spend the day!
