Just heard a rumor today that RCI has just begun to charge for orange juice and lemonade. Is this correct? Seems like it would be tough to do - they have the OJ and lemonade lined up in the Windjammer in the a.m.s for you to just pick up. Please say it isn't true!!!!
Got back yesterday from a 4 day cruise on the Sovereign and they were not charging anything for juices, tea or lemonade either in the Windjammer or the dining rooms. We also took a tour of the kitchens with the executive chef and he didn't mention anything about charging for these drinks.
Donna is right about a listing in the daily compass for a food cooking demonstration (but not a kitchen tour). It was conducted by the executive chef in one of the lounges on the ship. After the demonstration, I asked him if we could tour the kitchen and he said to meet him at 4:00 outside one of the dining rooms, and invited the 20 or so people at the demonstration also. He told me on the tour that they could not make a general offer to all on board as the crowd might overwhelm them. We spent over an hour touring all areas of the kitchen and it was very interesting. Don't know how they handle it on other ships but suspect that if you are able to talk to the chef one on one, it can probably be arranged.
Just read something on another board where the original poster who said you now had to pay for juice posted (FROM the official RCCL site) the info. about getting their new drink/juice card.. There is a new beverage/juice card that is $6 a day (you cannot buy just one day's use) and allows adult passengers to get unlimited fountain (only - not canned) soda and O.J., pineapple juice, or cranberry juice from the bars, dining rooms and in the Windjammer. It didn't specify whether you can still get OJ at breakfast, for instance. I am going to email them and ask. Will report back when/if I rec'v. a reply.
Will be intersted too as to what the "official" word is on this. Will be on Voyager in a few weeks, so it would be nice to know if I can get OJ for breakfast in the windjammer or if I'll have to pay for it??
I just called royal, because on the web site, it does say $6.00 plus gratuity a day for a fountain card which listed juice, and she said it is free, and I said then why is it on your web site stating you have to pay for it ,so she put me on hold and came back on, and said effective Jan 2004, you do have to pay for your juice, and She said lemonade was free , because that was not listed in the juices you had to pay for ,and I inquired about that also. I had her put in a comment that I don't think it is right that you have to pay for your juice, when you didn't have to before. She also said I could e-mail them my comments also, I will do that also. 1/19/04, so maybe if enough people call with their reservation #, Royal carribean can go back to free juice, which should be included in the price of the cruise.
I think I too will write an e-mail. Seems if we booked a cruise almost a year ago, the juice should be included?? I too will post back with what they reply for, but I wrote an e-mail over a week ago on another matter and still am waiting for a reply??
i heard they started the charge for juice at all times of the day in order to stop the people from taking the juice and making thier own drinks because they were losing money from the bars but if you pay all that money for the cruise you should be able to get what you want
