If you contact the Puerto Rico Tourism bureau at 1-800-866-7827 or www.GoToPuertoRico.com request the Go To Puerto Rico Travel Planner (it's free) and a wealth of information on hotels etc with price ranges. Very helpful! Hotels etc are very pricy in San Juan. Not just a specific hotel but all of them are. Tourism tax is very high I believe is the cause. We will be there 6-8 Feb and post cruise 15 Feb. Got a room with double beds and found it less expensive to share a room with our friends.
We stayed last June at the Caribe Hilton for 90.00 per night for 2 rooms on priceline. The cruise ship wanted 177.00 per person per night. We had 6 of us. Priceline was a lot cheaper and the hotel is really very nice.
We are sailing on the AOS in July. We are going down a couple of days earlier. In 1999, we stoped on the Grandeur of the Seas in San Juan. As we walked towards Old SJ, we passed the Wyndham Old SJ. They have a casino that we stoped at after touring Old SJ. Since it is so close to the Old SJ area, we decided to stay there. $144 a night.
I'm going on the AoS this October out of SJ and wanted to stay an extra night before the cruise. I haven't been there either but, several people recommended the Wyndham Old SJ. I checked Wyndham's website and the web rate for the room was $131 when I checked. I had my TA book the room for me and got the same rate.
