When you get the sail and sign card at check in how much do they hit your credit card for? I heard it was $1000, but that seemed really high. (My husband and I will be going on the AOS for a 8 day cruise).
What happens if you don't have $1000 on a credit card? What do they do?
I don't think the authorizations are that high, although it wouldn't be unheard of (Disney World starts your room charge with a $1000 authorization). If you don't have a credit card with a high enough limit, you can guarantee your sign & sail card with cash.
Be carefule, IF you use a check card, they hit you twice, but you get the money back. Basically, they "authorize" the card each day for the amount you spent. When they do this, the funds are not again available for 7 days. Then, o the last day, they charge your card for the full amount.
So, on my last cruise, I got hit with a $1500 charge the last day, and they held $1500 for up to 7 days after I was home.
Not a big deal if you have extra money, but if things are tight......
On Carnival, for the sail and sign, my check card was hit for 200.00 for a seven day cruise and 250.00 for a 8 days. When you reach your limit, you can ask them to increase your limit. If you pay cash, then when you reach your limit, they will stop your card and tell you to go to the pursar's desk. On Royal Caribbean, they do the same thing. I hope this helps.
Thanks for helps guys. We are going to be using the checkcard from out bank. But my bank only holds it for 3 days prior to releasing it and not 7. We'll just make sure there is enough money on there (hopefulyy!!).
