Default what's the big deal about duty free?

My husband recently explained what duty free shopping is, but I don't understand the frenzy of it. Are people buying stuff they don't buy at home because it's cheaper or are they just buying stuff because it's "duty free" and when they get home they regret it because they don't really need/want it? I've heard St Thomas is the best place to shop. When we go (4/05 VOS) I'd like to buy a diamond ring any my husband would like to get a watch. Anyone know of a place to get a good deal?

With the deals available on the internet it is not as compelling as it used to be. If you know how to value the stuff and are good at the haggle thing, you can do pretty well on the price and not pay taxes too. On expensive items (ie rolex, diamonds), that adds up.

If you are shopping in St. Thomas I would recommend Diamonds International for the diamond ring. They are recommended & guaranteed by RCCL and they have some great jewelry and prices. They are very reputable so you know you are being ripped off.

For you husbands watch I would recommend Little Switzerland. Could benefit you as well. They have a his & hers set of Movado watches for $299.99. Yes I said &299.00 for both. It is a great deal. In the states they go for $400.00 a piece in most jewelry stores.

Happy Shopping & Cruising.
