I just cannot believe this, yet it is TRUE! The following was emailed to me when I contacted RCI regarding hidden charges on the boats:
"In addition to the soft drink charges and the per person Johnny Rockets fees, RCI is compelled to begin charging each passenger an additional $0.03 per sheet of toilet tissue used during their cruise. With the recent increase in fines for environmental sewage dumping and the cost of paper we at RCI feel we have no alternative but to pass along this reasonable cost to our guests (and crew - no one gets out of this Scott-free).
This new fee is already in effect on our Northern cruises and will begin for other destinations beginning 4-1-04. If you are still somewhat confused by this new policy please consult the posted instructions on your ship. They can be found on Deck 12 – the Poop Deck.”

I don't want to "dampen" your spirits by "dumping" on the idea of a surcharge for what some of us have come to expect both types of sheets as standard amenities. However, the good news is that there is now a money-saving alternative to the .03/sheet charge.
Yes folks, that's right, you can purchase a TP Card, which will entitle you to a full role of 1-ply right in your own stateroom every day. Not only that, but you can also use the card to gain access to the public facilities. Thriftier travellers may even try to cheat a little by smuggling a few extra of those precious sheets out for their own "little Johnny."
If I ever wondered why I read this board, this is the answer. I have been chucking out loud and we all know laughter is the best medicine.
Thanks for keeping this going. Are we now going to smuggle our TP on board?
It used to be so much easier to price your cruise. It was a matter of inside or outside stateroom, what deck, and when you were going. Now, along with these questions would be...Will you go to Portifinos??? Chops??? Will you buy the soda/juice card??? Will you decide to eat at Johnny Rockets??? It all adds up very fast. Just wondering when they will start to charge for their Las Vegas/ Broadway style shows.
Be careful... I hear they hired Mr Whipple as a TP baggage screener... if you see an old guy squeezing luggage, you should find a better place to hide your TP.

BUTT, the good news is they are making the concierge level service more appealing. Now your very own room steward will perform personalized wiping services. Those little towel animals you get in your cabins will now perform double duty.
Remember they only add these service charges to increase the quality of service.
