Can someone recommend a nice hotel close to Inner Harbor in a safe area that is not as expensive as the hotels in the harbor. We will be coming off the Grandeur of the Seas and would like to visit Inner Harbor for one night after the cruise. Thank you.
Once you decide on a hotel or rather a hotel rating, say a 4 star hotel, you can try priceline. At priceline you can bid on a 4 star hotel and get it at a really cheap price. I bid on the Radisson in Miami (a 3 star hotel) and paid $40, the room rates vary anywhere from $129 and up.
You may find the following website helpful. On the right hand side of the page you will see Hotel Region, click on Inner Harbor. This website gives ratings for hotels near the Inner Harbor.
We stayed at the Brookshire Suites and liked it. Included a nice breakfast buffet. One block from the Inner Harbor, we could see the harbor from our room. We have also stayed at the Admiral Fell Inn, in Fells Point. It is also nice and it is easy to hop on the water taxi to get to all the attractions. Admiral Fell Inn is the nicer of the two but farther from the action, although Fells Point is a nice area with Pubs and Shops.
We live in Baltimore (suburbs) and I recommend staying in the Inner Harbor area vs. Fells Point. Fells Point is nice, but there is more to see in the Harbor area. Personally I'd try for the Hyatt or Marriot on Priceline. The closer to the harbor the better. There are lots of hotels in obscure areas where you probably shouldn't go anyway. Baltimore is like any other city...there is crime and there are areas where you should not go. If I can help, please feel free to email me.
I also live in the Baltimore Md area and leaving on the Grandeur of the Sea May 31, 2004. If you have any questions feel free to contact me and I'll try and help. Like the person replied above there are area you have to be careful in and depends on whether you want a Harbor View or not.
