Default Hotel in Puerto Rico - Pre Cruise Question's....

I will be sailing out of PR on the Serenade on 1/8/2005 with my wife and parents. I have been in PR before, and would assume that the best hotel to say in (best for me is closet to pier and Old San Juan) is going to be the Wyndham Old SJ. Is that correct?

How much have people gotten that hotel for if you have stayed, and from where?

Is the pier right accross the street the pier that you leave from on this cruise, or is it the other Pier?

Hi 02,
Yes, the Wyndham is right across the street from one pier. There is also the Pan AM pier which is a bit farther away, a short taxi ride, no big deal. We're staryed there to pre-cruise and it was very convient to Old San Juan, nice for walking around town, going to see the forts, etc. I can't remember what we end up paying, but it wasn't cheap, but worth the money, there are definitely more expensive hotels, but not right at the pier.

You will love Serenade, she is beautiful. We stayed at Wyndham Old San Juan and it was great. Although there is a pier across the street, Serenade does not dock there but rather at the Pan Am Pier (a 5 minute taxi ride). WOSJ hotel was close to all amenities such as stores, sightseeing etc but had only 1 restaurant that wasn't very good. On a previous cruise we stayed at Condado Resort (also a Wyndham hotel) which is just across the lagoon and also a great hotel but with more and better restaurants and a nicer pool and a small beach. It would also be about a 5 min taxi ride to Pan Am pier. It just depends on what amenities are important to you in a hotel, I would highly recommend both. We paid $129 at Condado in 2001 and $149 at WOSJ this past Jan, both booked thru Wyndham website.

Hello...My wife and I are cruising again out of San Juan on the Adventure October 17th and we are again staying a day prior and a day after we return from the cruise. Even though this will be our third time to sail out of San Juan and our third time staying overnight at a hotel, I can't remember fully how close our hotel is from the pier.

We always stay at the Caribe Hilton. It seems to me, that it was very close to the pier or just a short drive. The Caribe Hilton is more expensive than other hotels at about $179 to $229 a night, however, the place is spectacular. Great atmosphere, superb restaurants, and one of the best outside pool bars with music to get in the cruise mood. There is not a casino in the Caribe, which to us is good, since I will lose enough in the ship casino. Depending upon your budget, I would at least explore the possibility of staying at the Caribe Hilton.

Hope this helps.

Dave

My group of 38 opted for the Caribe Hilton instead of the San Juan Marriott after the Hilton matched the group rate we were getting. We love the Marriott, but the opportunity to stay at the more upscale Hilton and be closer to Old San Juan was too good to turn down. Our group rate, including all taxes and fees, was under $160 a night ... and that's per room, not per person. And kids are free in the room with two adults. Looking forward to our stay at the lovely Caribe Hilton for two days in July ... and then its off to Adventure of the Seas.

You should try bidding on Priceline. Last summer I got the Caribe Hilton for $70/night and the Intercontinental for $90/night. For this year, I got the Wyndham Condado Resort for $90/night.

Try Priceline. We got the Radisson for two nights for $ 75 in July.
