Default Ships leaving San Juan

I booked a cruise on the Serenade next April out of San Juan. It says the ship leaves at 10 PM. Does anyone know what time they let you board? I'm trying to decide if we want to arrive a day early or not.

Noon or 1 pm. You get all day on board if you want it & have a greater margin for error if you fly in the day of your trip.

Since we cruise in the winter, we fo down the day before. The last 3 X we were on the ship by noon, had lunch & took a cab to Old City to shop. It;s so relaxing to have the extra day vacation and startt he cruise rested.

Hello...We are leaving out of San Juan again in October on the Navigator. We always fly down a day early. After arriving the same day as the cruise previously, we decided to fly down a day prior and have never regretted it. It allows you catch your bearings, see some of San Juan, relax at the hotel and get on board the ship early enough if you so desire and ahead of most same day arriving cruisers.

We always stay at the Caribe Hilton, which is a bit more expensive than some of the other hotels. About $179 to $209 a night, but we think well worth it. The place is beautiful, the restuarants out of this world, and the best private beach around. Not to mention a great pool bar with music and the friendlest people around to get you in that cruise mood.

Even though you can purchase air from the cruise lines and transfers from the airport to hotel, hotel to pier and vice versa, we have learned that it works out better sometimes to get your own transportation tot he hotel and to the pier. That way you avoid waiting for hundreds of other curise passengers to fill a bus before they leave and take you to the hotel. And on the day of the cruise, if you take your own cab to the pier, you can beat all of the other cruise passengers who bought transfers to the pier and get on before they arrive. By time the hotel guests got to the pier we were already on board. This holds true even if you arrive the same day.

Hope this helps a bit. Any other questions just let me know. I've done so many of these now and have learned so many things that we get more efficient in our preperations each time and still learn something new each time.

Hi Dave,
We do get our own airfare but made the mistake of using the transfer from ariport to hotel (only once made that mistake). Being new to the whole experience we waited 45 minutes for the bus to take us to hotel, along with 50 other people. Thankfully we were the only ones at the Hyatt so we were dropped off first. Needless to say we took a cab to the pier the next day and boarded the ship nice and early. I was thinking because the ship leaves so late from San Juan (10 PM) it would be safe to fly down the same day but I'm re-thinking. It's nice to go the day before.
