Default JEWEL OF THE SEAS

Now that the inaugural cruise has been completed, what is the feedback? How were the accomadations? How was the food? Any tips? Any fun hidden places? My Husband and I are sailing on Nov. 14, 2004, to the Western Carrib. Thanks for any input

Hi Jessie,

My husband and I were able to travel on the 2 nighter to Guernsey on the 5th May and were also invited to the naming ceremony.

The Ship is beautiful! Very expensively fitted out...you know what I mean drapes, carpets etc.

Cabins are pretty compact and bijou, but once again very expensively fitted. Good news no shower curtains! The shower has a proper door.

Great theatre, no obstructed views. Look ot for the cinema, next to the Sports Bar and Casino, lovely comfortable seats.

Great Solarium in Balinese theme and the Spa and Gym are wonderful.....a bit expensive but go on you're on holiday.

Food, we ate at Portofinos one night excellent meal and service, but quite expensive by the time you add wine etc.

Dinner in the Tides for the other 2 nights was excellent, plenty choice. The buffet at the Windjammer is usual buffet fayre, well presented and no queues when we were there. Go to the Seaview Cafe for snacks, funny opening times and watch out you have to pay for drinks even coffee.

All in all a wonderful experience, can't wait to sail on her again in 15 days time to the Baltic. 12 nights visiting Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, St Petersburg and Tallinn, and best of all 4 whole days at sea.

We are a group of 108 square dancers from the U.K., who will dance on board and also with our Square Dance Frinds in Stockholm and Helsinki!

I am sure you will love her!

Anything else you want to know let me know

Heather

We were on Inaugral cruise and the ship is beautiful. We had some issue with our infant but that's another storey.

Here are some of our opinions.

1. Windjammer - We think this is the best buffett style eatery we have eaten at. Plently of choice for all taste buds.

2. Dining room - ok but we have had better meal choices and service.

3. Spa - very expensive but a few daily specials make it a bit more affordable.

4. Seaview Cafe - Nice menu but you have to pay for drinks apart from tea.

5. Stateroom (Sea view with Balconly). Very nice. Spacious compared to other ships we have been on.

6. Port days. Well organised in getting passengers on and off.

7. Adventure golf - surprising no queues and a nice way of passing a bit of time.

Sorry didn't get to use the cinema, theatre, bar or pools so cannot comment on that.

Please ask if you have any other questions.

Jessie, we'll be on the sailing before yours, 11/06. From the pictures I've seen & the reviews I 've read I think she's the best of the Radiance class. We can't wait.

There's a GREAT pictorial review of the Jewel, at cruiseclues.com.

Click on SHIPTIPS, JEWEL OF THE SEAS, then the first option brandis.org/fotogalerie/Jewel04.

Sorry about the link above. I'm a little new at this board & just figured out the correct way to post pics & links. I'm going to try this.

Ok that worked, even though it's a little smaller that I had hoped for. Now I'm going to try & post that link again.

I didn't complete a review but did a post regarding the May 16 Baltic run we were on. As expected the "Jewel" has made improvements on her sisters and is a fantastic ship for this price range. The complete curtain in our category "D" was a nice touch and we used it on a couple of nights that I chose to watch TV while the wife was already in bed. The shower DOOR versus the body grabbing curtain is a real PLUS. We loved the various artwork as we wandered about the decks and the view from the "Crown and Anchor" lounge down through the centrum is a "must see." As with the "Radiance," we felt the "Windjammer" is a plus while the main dining room is average fare at best.

Overall experience was that it was an excellent value for what we paid!
