We are going on 6/13 and I want to know the same thing. A previous
post on this board said they got on at 1:00pm on the 5/16 cruise to Canada, but
the RCCL documents say 5:00PM. I have never heard of getting on a
cruise that late in the day.
We were on the 5/30 sailing. Arrived at the port at 5 p.m. to total chaos - the returning voyagers were just then deembarking! We managed to give our luggage to porters and proceeded to the terminal building. Even with priority boarding (we had a suite and hubby is disabled), it was 6 p.m. before we got on the ship.
Hopefully, the next returning cruise will clear out sooner, but I wouldn't arrive much before 5 - although I did meet several people who arrived around 1 - they still had to wait until 6 to board, but boarded before others arriving later.
One tip - after dropping off your carry-ons, go immediately to the dining room. By 7 p.m., there were huge lines waiting to get in. We got there by 6:15 and were shown directly to a table. It was one of the best meals of the week!
We are flying in to Newark on 6/13 at 11:00am.
Obviously I made the air reservations before all
the late boarding info came out. We are taking
the Ellis Island tour at 3:00PM. I guess we will
go over to Cape Liberty after arriving at Newark
and see what's going on. I don't know what else
to do at this point.
Actually, no - they really don't have their act together yet with this new port. I'm sure it will improve with each sailing, however. One matter of concern was the fact that people waiting for pick-ups (either relatives, car services, or just someone who went to get the car in the parking lot) had to wait in the middle section of a 4-lane road with their luggage. Fine and dandy on a nice day (which, fortunately, it has been for each of the recent trips). Our car service driver asked one of the people there what happens if it rains as there is absolutely no shelter available - he was told that they're trying not to think about that!
In any event, a number of people had arrived at the port well before 5 - they were allowed to park (although probably had difficulty finding a spot since the prior cruise had not yet left the ship), but still had to wait until 6.
I'm sure you will enjoy your pre-boarding cruise, however. Our tablemates had taken it and loved it.
Absolute TOTAL CHAOS. Was on Voyager 5-21-5-30-04. It was insane. They really need to work on the Disembarking process. We docked at 10am from the Caribbean.
We didn't get called to leave the ship until 3pm. We were one of the first colors called. They were still off loading luggage. I hope they get their act together or they will lose alot of business. We heard limo drivers saying they would never pick up or drop anyone at Bayonne again.
