Here is a link to a page on Cruise Critic. I hope this will be helpful to you. Are you going on the Grandeur Sept 4 out of Baltimore? My boyfriend, sister and brother-in-law will be on that cruise. We are starting to get excited. Did you sign up for the Meet and Mingle on the Cruise Critic site? It is nice to meet other people who are corresponding prior to the cruise. We have left from Baltimore on the Galaxy for 10 and 11 day cruises in the past two years. It is GREAT! Here is the link:
just came back on july 4th from the grandeur. Departing from baltimore was organized and went very smooth. The ship was very nice but i have to say i was on nicer ones. The dining room, show rooms, etc. were very nice but i felt the cabins and pool area need some updating. The food and entertainment was above average. Make sure you order 2 dinners of lobster tail on that night because they were very small (they serve it with shrimp) We did not do the excursions offered cause we found through experience on our past 5 cruises they are over priced. We usually get off the ship and take a cab to where we want to go, its much much cheaper that way and alot of the times its the same thing offered on the excursion. Overall it was a very nice vacation on the grandeur. The crew were very friendly and full of energy.
Thanks all for the info! I'll be taking a look at the other links provided to see the other reviews.
Rozebud, we are leaving out of Baltimore, but haven't signed up for any of the meet and greets. We're totally playing the entire trip by ear, not really signing up for anything but full relaxation! I'm sure we'll see you all on the ship, though!
It's good to hear about the departure from Baltimore. I've seen a picture of the port, never having been there, and it looks huge and quite "overbearing" for lack of a better word! Seems like going through customs and embarking would be mass confusion, so it's good to hear that it went smoothly, especially on or near a holiday weekend like Independence Day.
What about the cabins did you think needed updating? Carpeting? Bathrooms? How comfortable were the beds?
Good to hear about the food. I've read reviews here that said the food was average, some below average. And thanks for the heads up on the lobster dinner thing, we'll be sure to order 2! My husband may end up ordering 3!
As far as the excursion, I'd done some internet research on that, and found the same thing, so it's good to know that it's also true in real life!
So you say that overall it was a very nice vacation on the Grandeur. Do you feel like you got your money's worth, even with the updating you think the ship needed, etc.?
We had a balcony cabin and i felt the drapes could be updated along with the decor in the room. In the bathroon, the shower curtain needed replacing badly! Beds were not bad.
Yes i did feel i got my money's worth.
An example of an overpriced excursion was in cape canaveral. My husband, myself and daughter and friend chose to go to coco beach for the day so we got off the ship and took a bus right outside of the ship for $6.00 each round trip. that evening we spoke to another couple who paid $27 each for the same trip to coco beach that they booked from the ship excursion list. So we paid a total of $24 for 4 people where they paid $54 for 2 people to do the same exact thing.
Good night! That's quite a difference in pricing! I knew there was some differences in the pricing for the Belize and Cozumel excursions, but I had no idea some of them could be that drastic! Yikes!
And YUCKOLA on the shower curtain! Egads! Well, after reading the messages on the boards, I now know that we can ask the purser to fix whatever we find to be wrong with our cabins, so that would definitely be something that I'd ask to have fixed if I found that in our cabin.
I don't know how badly the drapes were worn, and I don't know how likely it would be that they'd have extra of those onboard (shower curtains are something different....those there'd probably be extra of), but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask to have them replaced.
But thanks again for the info, it's good to hear that there weren't horrible things wrong with the cabin, but it's also good to know what to look out for!
just back on july 25th, the grand suite and ship was great, baltimore was very smooth, but to be honest, the service was not as good as we have come to expect from other rccl ships(all over the ship, cabin, dining room lounges, casino etc.), food was good, the staff always seemed to be catching up getting this or finding that, the private departure lounge had stale muffins and donuts, customer service desk was more like dealing with goverment staff, you wait and wait, and they weren't polite. The shore ex desk was brutal (heard this from others as well), I was told the crazy boat in key west was sold out, told was ONLY avail on board, (I asked twice) only to find out after walking around shopping in key west (woo hoo!) that the crazy boat was going out half empty, at end of day sat in schooner bar and watched it go out (imagine the joy), but I guess I'm comparing to other rccl experiences, all in all, a very good ship and itinerary, had lots of fun, and would do it again
