Default Which ship would you choose?

We are planning an Alaskan group cruise for June 2005. We are deciding between the Radiance and the Serenade, they leave Saturday and Sunday respectively and we would like feedback from all you experienced RCCL cruisers.

As far as the type of ship, size and layout they are both the same. I have saild Serenade 1 time and will be going again in Jen. We LOVE this ship and it Capt. I would chose Serenade just because of that and it is newer. Either way, you cant lose.

I think you'd enjoy both ships, but the Serenade is newer.

Both ships are wonderful, your decision should be based on which day you prefer to sail.
If Gordon Whatman is the Cruise Director on the Radiance next year, I would choose the Radiance because of him. He is great.

My 2 pennies would be to book whichever one has the better cabin location available to suit your wants/needs (assuming price is the same).

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Room location and departure dates are what we were thinking too since the ships are so similar. We are anxiously waiting our first RCCL cruise in 3 weeks!!

CA Cruiser

I too am trying to decide between Radiance and Serenade. I've also been looking at NCL Star and Diamond Princess. I noticed you've sailed on both the Princess line and the NCL Star. Which of those two lines did you like best and why. Thanks for your input.

Venus,
Between NCL and Princess, we prefer Princess. NCL Star was 6 months old when we sailed and it was awful. It creaked everywhere, especially in our room at night. We couldn't sleep. It sounded like someone was coming in the door. Many other cruises had the same experience. They tried ear plugs and sleeping pills but that didn't help. Our balcony room for 3 was tiny. Then NCL had a $10 surcharge to see a famous comedian, Marty Allen. Many boycotted the show because of that. We also didn't like the Freestyle cruising. Went to dinner for 3 people and had a 45 minute wait. I told them to set us at a large table and let others join us and they would not do that. So I looked around, asked 3 couples to join us and we went right in. They were very disappointed with NCL also. We had very poor dining service because you didn't have the same waitstaff every night.

Now on the Star Princess...that is our most favorite! We sailed her for my 50th birthday on her first cruise out of San Pedro and again the next year for our 30th annivesary. We were treated like royalty! We renewed our vows in the chapel and it was beautiful. I have many friends who have sailed on her and infact one sailed her in Alaska, loved her so much, then sailed her in Australia.

We like Carnival too. Last year on the Glory, we experienced the best food ever!

We are very excited about going on our first RCCL cruise, the Mariner, in 2 1/2 weeks!!

I like the Radiance intinerary for the 6/25/05 sailing because July 4th is Monday and that gives us an extra day of vacation!

Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.
