Just got back yesterday from the 7/30 VOS cruise. The ship was beauthiful but was a bit disappointed in the overall cruise. Have previously been on Carnival a few times and they had a lot more of on-board activities. The Disco was always empty or 1/4 filled at best. The casino is so cramped and not a lot of tables.
The service was ok, but not spectacular. The food was satisfactory. I guess I had higher expectations from Royal and was disappointed. A lot of people on the ship were complaining too.
Was always told it was a big step up from Carnival. But honestly, I'll stick with Carnival next time. For the price, you get better value. Also, Carnival had a more diverse crowd..this ship was full of Staten Island and NJ.
ditto, we were on the 7/30 cruise. Can only compare to other RCCL and Celebrity. Service and cleanliness on past RCCL cruises was far superior...I think they have cut back on staff per passenger and in the case of the Voyager class, per square footage. On previous RCCL I always saw someone polishing/vacuuming in the public areas...a bit annoying at times but always made for an immaculate/spotless ship. This was not the case and it wasn't because of the NY/NJ contingent...it had alot to do with RCCL. Our waiter was excellent and wanted to make sure he got rated excellent and made sure he did anything he could to insure that level of service.
We also just got back from the 7/30 cruise and also a bit disappointed. The food was ok but not what I thought it would be. Our waiter was great. He too, did all he can to get the excellent rating. I thought that the menus didnt have a great varity that other lines have.
Also thought that they were disorganized, especially when we had to tender to Labadee. Waited for almost one hour to get off ship. On NCL they give you a time to get on the tender.
I have been on Celeberty, Carnival, NCL and RCCL. My first choice is NCL. I loved the freestyle cruising. I like that you can eat whenever you want. Also when disenbarking, you can wait in your stateroom till your tage is called.
Just an update... our waiter and assistant waiter were superb ...did not mean to slight all the employees...we took care of them!! Also, i jsut meant by the NY/NJ people that it seems Carnival gets people from all over the US for some reason and they sure make the cruises interesting
NOTE: complain to RCCL customer service to get future cruise credit.
there are known and signifiant problems with the staff of this ship. the voyager is unfortunatley the worst voyager class ship in the fleet. adventurer and even explorer were a totally different dining and entertainment experience.
hmmm, i just got off that same trip and loved it. our 2 cabins were spotless. the waiter and assistant were great! we enjoyed all the activities and were lucky enough to get lounge chairs by the pool every day. my major complaints were the tendering service at the ports and the horrible internet service. i tried 6 or 7 times and couldn't access aol. i was surrounded by yankees fans and we are die-hard red sox fans! all in all, we were happy with the ship and the cruise itself.
