Default Enchantment Questions

We are looking at booking on the Enchantment in March and have lots of questions. We sailed this past spring on Carnivals Fantasy, so I'm trying to compare the two. Would appreciate any input you have:

When is the formal night of the 5 nt cruise (Key West, Cozumel, Belize)?

Overall, how is the appearance of the Enchantment, I see it's due for a refurbishment next Spring--does the wear & tear show now?

What restaurants are on board and how do you rate the food?

Leaving from Ft. Lauderdale, how far is the port from the nearest airport?

How many pools?

Are we going to be inundated with children, or are there "adults only" areas?

That should help for now--just trying to make an educated decision, and I'm not getting a lot of info off the RCI website regarding the details of the ships as far as restaurants, activities, shore excursions, etc. I'd appreciate ANY feedback! Thanks!

We sailed in June on the Enchantment out of Ft. Lauderdale. The port is very close to the Ft. Lauderdale airport (15 minutes in traffic). The cruise was great! You'll love the Cruise Director - Matt and his crew. The ship looked great, didn't look very old at all. There are two pools (one outside and one inside the solarium). There is one formal night and the rest are semi-formal, with the exception of the 1st night which is casual. There is one dining room (2 floors) - very elegant. There is a buffet-style restaurant and a mid-night munchies place (solarium). We sailed in the summer so there were lots of kids, but it really didn't feel like it. The solarium pool is adult only. There is an adult only comedy performance and of course the casino is adult only.

Don't miss "The Quest" - it's a must see event.

I replied to your email you sent me. The ship is in great shape. It is going in for dry dock but more for the lengthening that for need of repairs. You will have some kids in March because of spring break but don't let that deter you.

We sailed her in June. The formal night for us was Key West night. the ship is in excellent shape they were replacing the carpet by the pool when we were on.
I found the food to be not so great in the dining room. Room service and the Windjammer Buffet were usually good. We didn't starve by no means.
Don't miss the "quest" show at night for adults only it was a riot.
Do plan something for Belize in advance it is mainly a shopping port with not very good selection, where the tender ships will drop you. Do not venture out of the gates there either without a planned ride. We were offered to purchase drugs 2 seconds stepping out the gate.

I think we were also on that cruise. June 21st. They were replacing the carpet and also were painting the railing in the back of the ship near the rock wall.
It was a great cruise...and I agree, the Belize excursion was terrible. Very rainy. It WAS interesting to see and peak through the gates to see the terrible living conditions that these people live in. The gate kept them out and away from the tourists. Seemed a bit Sad.
We did meet some great educated people selling in the shops. Very well put together.

Most people on our cruise that we knew did the tubing down the river, and they loved it, but there was a lot of walking. There were two people who went on their own and were robbed. Another family I met on the ship lucked out and took a tour of the city with an older man. They said they loved it....we were going to the Mayan Ruins, but because of the weather, we cancelled.

The ship is beautiful! It was clean and polished. The food was OK....the dining room probably had better food than the Windjammer, but at the end...we found out that the sandwiches and wraps in the Windjammer were terrific and better than the cafeteria type food. We did loved the afternoon snacks there.
Why they have the snack bar in the Adult solarium....I don't know. Should be with the kids.

I loved the Enchantment....and Matt was fantastic. The singers were professional.
My 13 year old has a new appreciation for Broadway. Thank goodness!
Will be on the Navigator next June 4th.....can't wait.

We cruised on June 7-12 on the enchantment. We loved it. 1st night in the dining room was casual. 2nd night was formal (we just wore short dressy dresses and the guys wore suits), 3rd night was "smart casual", and the other two were casual. Dining room food was great and we fell in love with our waiter "Adrian from Romania". He was wonderful. We had over 100 high school graduates onboard the ship, so our outside pool was a little crowded, but we were content to sunbathe and just "observe". We never made it to the solarium pool because we wanted the sun. We loved Key West and went to Jimmy Buffet's Marguarittaville. Also went to Kino sandals ang got leather sandals for 7$. Wish we would have had more time there. At Cozumel, we went to a local beach club and spent the day in the water, floating and drinking....a great time! I agree with other posts on Belize. It was scary. We felt safe in the shopping area, but outside the gates was very scary. A friend of mine was warned by a local to take her earrings and jewelry off before she went on a tour of the city so she wouldn't get robbed. I wouldn't choose to do Belize again.

The ship was in great shape. Our daughter got married onboard the first day of the cruise and her wedding (done by Royal Romance) was beautiful and well done. RCCL treated us all so wonderfully and the pictures and video was great. The food in the Windjammer and snack bar were also great. The entertainment was fantastic (Matt Baker was wonderful).

Seas got very rough one night (12-15 foot swells) and many people were seasick (including me). I even had the "patch" for seasicknesses on. But, the next day I was fine again. The captain came on the loudspeaker the next day apologizing for the turbulance.

This was our first cruise and we are ready to go again. Every person we encountered was so polite and courteous. They all did everything they could to make it a memorable experience. Have fun!

PS....we had a balcony cabin and we loved being able to go out and see the dockings in our PJ's each day!

Default Re: Enchantment Questions

Got back on Saturday and boy was this vacation amazing. Seeing as I'm fifteen, I met so many awesome people and hopefully our group won't get griped about!

Now for your questions: (most have been answered, but here's my input)

When is the formal night of the 5 nt cruise (Key West, Cozumel, Belize)?
Second night, Key West. This worked out well, as we departed at two- thus leaving even the main seating guests enough time to get ready.

Overall, how is the appearance of the Enchantment, I see it's due for a refurbishment next Spring--does the wear & tear show now?
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the Enchantment after the stretching, as I too believe the dry docking is mostly for that as opposed to the wear and tear. Quite frankly, I saw the typical daily cleaning/painting/power-washing, but hardly anything else. Very eye-appealing ship.

What restaurants are on board and how do you rate the food?
No alternate-dining on the Enchantment, yet with My Fair Lady and the Windjammer, alternate-dining is unnecessary! With a party of eighteen, it seems someone tried every appetizer, entree and dessert on the menu and the only disappointment seemed to be the lobster bisque, as it wasn't as creamy as they had expected. I'm not one for fish of any sort and therefore stuck with the Chicken Philadelphia (very tasty), two pasta marinara dishes, the daily alternate steak with the herb butter (the best steak I've ever eaten) and the turkey dish. I ate in the Windjammer one night for the "teen dinner" and enjoyed that just as much as the dining room. Missed out on the afternoon snacks as I was normally out and about, but my mom said the nachos were to die for!

Leaving from Ft. Lauderdale, how far is the port from the nearest airport?
We took the shuttle through Royal Caribbean, $22 I believe. Within five minutes of landing at Fort Lauderdale's airport, a porter had taken our luggage to the shuttle and we were on our way. I believe the trip to the port took at most twenty minutes.

How many pools?
The main pool, which got very crowded once we left ports (my mom stayed on at each of the ports and enjoyed the pool to herself), the Solarium, and a total of six hot tubs. They're not very strict as far as the adult-only part in the Solarium, as my group of teens had been in both the pool and hot tubs on numerous occasions. (Especially around 12ish at night before they drained the hot tubs!)

Are we going to be inundated with children, or are there "adults only" areas?
I already said what the situation was in the Solarium, and I found that other "adults only" areas were similarly not enforced. About fifteen of us went to the adults only comedy (Carl Strong is amazing!) and were not presented with any problems. Also in the casino, we were never confronted about our being underage.

As far as Belize? I agree with everything everyone said. My dad and I tendered in and tendered out.

Our family group is sailing the 4-day cruise with stops at Key West and Cozumel on Oct. 7. We can't do tuxedos for formal night, but is it acceptable for navy jacket and dress slacks with shirt and tie for men? Women will be "dressed up", but not formal dresses.

As you've probably already heard, acceptable formal attire is far and wide. Especially since it's a four-day, you'll have even more leniency in that category. Wear the jacket and enjoy your cruise!
