Someone jumped from Voyager of the Seas last week Here is the story it was in a NJ Paper.
A woman apparently jumped from a cabin of a Royal Caribbean cruise ship as the vessel was headed back to Bayonne this past weekend and she is presumed dead, according to law enforcement officials.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said yesterday that information collected from the woman's family and from cruise line representatives have led investigators to conclude that the woman, 67, of Queens, deliberately leaped to her death. DeFazio said the woman was accompanying her son and his family on the Caribbean cruise, aboard the Voyager of the Seas.
"There were indications she'd lost money in the casino on board and she came back to her cabin, went onto the balcony of the cabin, where she appeared to have put a chair against the railing, removed her clothing and went off into the sea below," DeFazio said.
It's believed that the incident happened late Saturday night when the ship was off the coast of South Carolina, DeFazio said.
Investigators reported that an apparent suicide note was left in the woman's cabin, DeFazio said.
"It certainly sounds like a desperate act," DeFazio said.
DeFazio said the cruise line notified the Bayonne Police Department and the U.S. Coast Guard before arriving back at port at the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.
Royal Caribbean spokesman Michael Sheehan would say only that the incident has been reported to the FBI. -Ronald Leir
