I believe I read that this beach wasnt good for snorkeling, so I imagine they dont rent gear. Plus its really crowded. Im interested in one that is good for snorkeling (not too rough since I have a almost 3 yr old who will be swimming too), and not too crowded. Thanks!
Yes, you can take a taxi to Sapphire Beach. It's really nice and they rent snorkel equipment. At least they did when I was there in 2001. I think I paid about $5 per person per trip. And the taxi was nice enough to come back to pick us up at the agreed upon time.
I was referring to the beaches on St. Thomas. I went to St. John's last time and loved it but would rather not have to waste as much time taking the ferry. I want to be able to take my kids this time and it would be a lot cheaper taking a taxi to a beach right on the island. Thanks for everyones responses.
I loved Coki Beach on St. Thomas for snorkeling. There were loads of fish, big & small. They give you dog biscuits to feed the fish when you rent equipment and all the fish go crazy over them. A cab can take you there and pick you up when you tell them to be back by a certain time.
We just did Coki beach. 10 minute taxi ride. All the facilities, non pushy vendors and the best pina colada's I've ever had. Ask for thomas. You can rent snorkle equ. here or bring your own. Best snorkeing is to the left when facing the water, you'll see the rocks. We had nothing to feed the fish, but they were so "trained" that everytime we entered the water by the reef, over a hundred fish appeared. Not crowded, this is the same beach that shares coral world, which I wouldn't waste my $$ on entering coral world.
