Is it $20 for a taxi to the port from airport? We used a cab on last Celebrity cruise, from Ft.Lauderdale to Port Everglades, it was about $13 plus tip. Much easier that way, has anyone used the taxi to Miami port?
We've taken a taxi from the Port of Miami when we sailed a couple years ago. We had no problem at all. If you can, plan to arrive in Miami early, around 11am. That will give you plenty of time to get from the gate, through baggage claim and to the taxi stand, with plenty of time to get on the boat a bit early.
If you can, fly in the night before and stay at the InterContinental hotel. You can find rooms for about $115/night. The hotel overlooks Biscayne Bay and you can see the ships right across the bay. There is also an outdoor shopping area and places to eat within a short walking distance. To get to the port the next morning, you can take a 10 minute (traffic) cab ride for about $15. Let the concierge know that you need to go to the port and at what time, and a cab will be waiting for you when you are ready to go. We did that last year and will never fly the same day ever again. Much less stress and no possibility of late arrival.
We stayed overnight at a hotel (Marriott Courtyard) near airport. It was close to the airport and they had a free shuttle. The next morning we took the free shuttle back to the airport and took a transfer to the port of Miami directly with Royal Caribbean. This was 11$ per person and they took care of the luggage and everything was fine. We boarded easily around noon. The comfortable busride took about 20 minutes.
