Our cruise on the Explorer sails on December 19th, so time for me to start asking questions. It's our family's first cruise, so I'm sure there will be several to post over the next few weeks.
When we get our SeaPass card, this is our room key and ship charge card, correct? Will they give each passenger one on a lanyard to put it around our neck, or do you need to bring one yourself if you are afraid of losing it? I'm most concerned about the kids and teens putting it down somewhere and having someone pick it up and start buying stuff on our card.
Congrats on your first cruise! We will be happy to try to answer any question you may have. I believe you will have to bring your own lanyard for each of the kids. I do not think the cruiseline will provide one, but I may be wrong.

Yes it is your room card and you must have it to get on & off the ship, so you will each have your own. You also use it to purchase anything on the ship, which can become way tooooo easy! Enjoy your first cruise. Ask anything you want on here & you'll get great advice. We went on our first cruise Sept. 24th and I had been on this board every day for months before that. I don't know what I would have done without all the help & great advice I got on here. ENJOY!
Go to walmart and get yourselves several of the lanyards that look like the old telephone cords that streched and snapped back into shape. Then have the ship purser or the casino person punch a hole in your cards. Snap them together and you are in business. I suggest getting the expancable cords because you can give your card to comeone when you buy a drink etc. and not have to take it out of you pocket. Have a great time on your cruise. We will go on our third in April 05. I love it. Wish I were going!!!!!!
They do sell lanyards on board (but not until the ship sails as shops are closed while in ports). As others have said: its your charge card (no cash/credit cards are used on board), room key and "ticket" to get on and off the ship. When you first board the ship, you will hand over the card and your picture will be taken. Any time you get on or off the ship, you have to stick your card in a machine and your picture will come up for the crewman. You can set a limit on the spending amount for each card, and even have it so it cant be used as a charge card (it will be punched with a hole).
