Has anyone sailed the Grandeur out of Baltimore.....Thinking of a summer cruise from there with DW and daughters.....We are from Pittsburgh and would love to drive to port.
We only have cruised the Millenium class ships on Celebrity.....how does the Grandeur "stack-up" ? Any experience with the kids programs(our girls are 12 & 15) ?
Is Baltimore a cruiser friendly port? Thanks in advance!!
Bill, I can tell you the Grandeur is a beautiful ship. The crew are great!!! Food was delicious and this is our favorite ship. We had sailed Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess. We like the Grandeur for the size. We just came off her in March 03. Although we don't have kids, it seemed to us, since it was spring break, that there were a lot of kids with a lot to do. Also from Pgh. and TA said that RC use to have a bus that transported passengers to Baltimore but they discontinued it because lack of people using it. We were thinking of cruising out of Baltimore or Philly. Beats flying. Have a great time and you won't be disappointed in this ship!!
I live in Baltimore and sailed from here about 2 years ago on Celebrity's Galaxy. I am booked on the Grandeur for May 27, 2005. My brother-in-laws family and some friends went on this cruise last June and had a wonderful time. From looking at their pictures, I cannot wait to get onboard!! I do not have any children so I cannot comment on the kids programs personally, but they had 5 children with them (oldest was 13) and they enjoyed themselves. This was their first cruise.
I can't compare the Grandeur to the Millenium class since I haven't been on one of those ships (the Galaxy is a little bit of an older ship).
The Port of Baltimore was still pretty new when I sailed. I've heard that they have gotten better with their procedures. I did not have any problems with them. Since everyone was new, they were still learning their positions. Everyone that I encountered was friendly and willing to help. There is a proposal for a new/permanent Port to be built. Hopefully this will happen very soon.
Being able to drive to the port instead of flying is so much better!
Thank you Carol and Jamie.....I think I'll call my TA and book for this June. This will be the first cruise for our girls. I guess my wife and I have been a little too excited when talking and planning our upcoming Jan. cruise, so they figured there must be something pretty cool about this "cruise thing"<G>
