I tried to save a few nickles this cruise and booked my own air...US airways for Feb. cruise on Explorer. Watching the news tonight I find out US airways may be in trouble. Anyone have any suggestions lets say if they go out of business a week or so before my cruise? I live in the Northeast so driving to Miami although possible, is not a good option.
Anyone ever have to purchase last minute tickets to Florida? How did it go? Thanks for any help.
I booked US Air for my December cruise. I too was concerned. Lucky for me, they called me and told me my return flight time home had changed. Because they made the change and not me, I was able to cancel the tickets without any changes or penalties. I rebooked on Southwest because the flight times were bettter and paid more than I did on US Air. I still personally think US Air will be around for awhile. I would rather have done US Air since it was a direct flight to and from Miami and now we have to fly into Ft Lauderdale and get to Miami, again costing us more money.

US Airways got some good news this past week, which may help them survive past mid-January. However, it is by no way assured. Also, in some more good news, Congress is considering extending 9/11 protections so that if US Airways goes under, other airlines would be compelled to offer displaced passengers $25 per segment tickets, on a space-available basis, after their regular passengers are accommodated.
For me, too much hassle. I'd plan for the worst and figure out an alternative.
yes we are flying in on Saturday, our cruise leaves Sunday..that is the smart thing to do. I just don't know what we'll do if USAir goes under lets say 1 week before our cruise. My main concern will be finding affordable airfare in such short notice.
We charged our US air tickets, so we are kind of protected, just worried about finding short notice transportation to Florida.
Don't be concerned about flying on US Airways! They will be in business and flying maybe with just a few schedule changes. I work for US Airways and we will be GROWING in Feb. to include South America and Latin America.
Sorry Joey, but I don't share your confidence. While your chances have significantly improved recently, it is by no means assured that US Airways will last past January 15, and not even mostly probable that it will survive past May 15.
We are booked US air on the way back from San Juan. We booked air with the cruise line, so it will be their problem to get us back home. We didn't want to book it ourselves with US air because of all these problems. The cruise price was slightly more than the rest of the market.
Very often the situation regarding airlines is exagerated by the media.
