Hi Bob,
If you want to be close to the pier and Old San Juan, I'd recommend the Wyndham, across the street from the cruise pier and good shopping close by. You can also walk to either of the two old forts near by.

That is a good deal. I'm also on this sailing. Should be a nice cruise!

We went on Serenade this past January, you will love this ship, she is gorgeous.

Re hotels pre-cruise in San Juan, we have stayed at both the Wyndham Old San Juan and Wyndham Condado Resort. Both are great, depending on your preferences. The Old San Juan is close to shops and great for sightseeing and seeing the forts, but it isn't any closer to the port than the Condado, since most RCCL ships now leave from the Pan Am pier and not Old San Juan. Both hotels are pretty well the same distance and taxi cost to the pier. The Condado has more restaurants and bars and a great pool area with a swim up pool bar and a small beach. For my personal preferences I prefer the Condado but it really depends on what you plan to do in San Juan, you can't go wrong with either one however.
