There are about 8 Dunn's River Falls Excursions listed with Royal Caribbean. We want to do a Ship-sponsored excursion while in Jamaica. Which ones have you taken and would you suggest it, or which have you taken and not liked?
Our family did Dunn's River in AM last February, horseback riding in ocean in afternoon. It was tough doing both excursions in one day; had to cut the morning one short. Dunn's was great. I would recommend a morning trip. People we talked to who went later had great crowds; we were able to climb pretty much at our own pace with no crowds. Last year was EXplorer OTS; this year we're doing Serenade. Have a great time!
in 2003 on the voyager, we did the cruise to dunns river falls. we climbed the falls in the morning/early afternoon, went back to the ship to shower and eat lunch, then went to margaritaville and did some shopping in the afternoon.
Just back from a trip on the Mariner and I can tell you that the boat excursions to the Falls are a waste of time and money. We took the Dunns River Falls and Dolphin Cove boat tour because we thought it would be a leisurely boat ride to the Falls (and we thought we would get some views of the coast of Jamaica) but instead it was a very, very short ride to the Falls (it is VERY close to the ship by boat) and they try to make it long by actually heading out to sea which just makes it a bumpy wet ride. They then drop you off at the Falls, you climb them, and then you take a bus to the Dolphin Cove (also very close) and then again a bus from Dolphin Cove back to your ship or downtown if you want to shop. My sister took the so called Party Boat to the Falls and hers was pretty much the same as ours except they included a plastic glass of punch and some very lame music. The Falls though are definitely worth going to and climbing. Also Dolphin Cove (though small) is nice just to watch the dolphins, swim with the dolphins, hang out by the ocean, or walk the path (which has people showing some snakes, parrots, iguanas, etc. on the way). You also can see where the Falls dump into the ocean from Dolphin Cove. Just don't bother with the boat, take it as a land tour.
In '03, we did the Sanara Trimaran Cruise, Snorkeling & Dunn's River Falls. If you want the experience of sailing, don't do this excursion. The boat's sails were largely for show, you were mostly under power. It's older equipment.... But it was fun. We were the last excursion back to the ship that day. And late, too.
The snorkeling was just all right. We went to a spot not far off the shore...though it was definitely helpful to have the guide we had. He knew where to go and where exactly to swim.
The Falls are great and definitely a must see to hike up. Have fun!!
Thanks for the information! We booked the cruise to the falls. I hope we like it better than Backheidi did. The reason we decided to book the cruise, was other message boards talked about how they felt safer and weren't intimidated so much by locals on the way. Anyone have any experience with not feeling safe?
