Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
When do we tell someone we want this on our account? Is that all we have to do?

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
A form approving the Sea Pass tipping will be delivered to your cabin. You sign it, and then they'll send vouchers for you to present to the staff. That's it! Simple and easy.

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
Will you know and recognize the special personal you want to tip? And when do you tip them? Also, how do you tip your dining room staff? Is there only one person who brings you your food and beverages and takes your plates? When and how do you tip them? What about in the buffet areas, is there tipping for those people too? Sounds like you need to bring a lot of tip money! And according to the tipping guidelines they sent us, and you break down totals, that's not much of a tip, is it? True there are many clients tipping, so they should recieve a nice chunk of change, but what might a nice, well appreciated cash tip be? Sorry so many questions....taking our first cruise in 28 days!

Re: Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
Just got of Grandeur of the Seas two weeks ago, so I am freshly versed in tipping for RCI. As Kuki mentioned, a Tipping Form will be delivered to your room early in your cruise. If you choose to use this form and have the tips added to your Sea Pass Account, be SURE to pay attention to the Deadline for this form. My husband and I were on a 7 day cruise ending on a Saturday, so tip night was Friday...the form had to be in by midnight Thursday and we forgot. The Purser's Desk really couldn't explain why we still could not charge to our Sea Pass when everything else on the ship can be charged up to the minute you walk off, but that is RCI policy. Luckily, we had enough spending money left to appropraitely tip everyone.

I would recommend using the vouchers though just in case you do run out of spending money...otherwise, you have to use the ship's ATM or not tip at all. If you fill out the form, the vouchers are delivered to your stateroom which you place in the envelopes that are also provided to you. You can add additional cash at that time too if you feel that person deserves a bigger tip. You then hand the envelope to each person on tip night.

Those that should be tipped include your Cabin Steward, Dinning Room Head Waiter, Table Head Waiter, and Table Assistant Waiter. Your two waiters at your table handle everything at your table all week from ordering to clearing. The Dinning Room Head Waiter really only just oversees them and will check on your table throughout the week. We left our envelope for our Cabin Steward in our room with a note on the final night, and handed the envelopes to the wait staff in the dining room on the final night at the end of dinner. I asked our table head waiter to pass along the envelope to the dinning room head waiter since he was not around. It is a little akward, but it is part of the drill, and everyone else is doing it too.

Those are the only folks that should be tipped. The head table waiters cover the dining room during the other parts of the day, and the assistant table waiters are usually covering the Windjammer, so everyone gets tipped. Gratutity is included in all bar drinks, so they get tipped. And apparently the Cruise Directing Staff are paid well enough that they are not expected to be tipped.

This was our first cruise too, and we loved it...HAVE A GREAT TIME!

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
Thanks Traceyleigh -- sounds really confusing, but perhaps it will all make sense once we are there. So, if you add tips to your sea pass, then you do nothing else? Do you think that's offensive to any of the personal and do they think your stiffing them? Don't know, just asking. It just seems easier to put it on the card...sounds much less confusing and hassel-free, but I would certainly not want to offend anyone, either.

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
Each crew member still gets their own envelope, it just has a voucher instead of cash. We add cash for the above average service provided.

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
All the tips are pooled and split amongst the crew, other than the 15% they automatically charge to drinks.

The vouchers are there system of having the passengers let them know you've tipped the recommended amount.

No other tipping necessary, unless you want to tip a special steward, server or bartender more.

"I would recommend using the vouchers though just in case you do run out of spending money...otherwise, you have to use the ship's ATM or not tip at all."

If you run low on cash at any time you can also go to the casino cage and they will advance you cash on your sea pass account. Even if your sea pass account is tied to a credit card it is NOT charged like a cash advance, it appears as a purchase.

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
We usually put our tips on the Sea Pass card and will continue to do so. We do add cash for above and beyond service. Our waiter on the Navigator (2-12-05) told us that there is a 15day waiting period to receive tips put on a Sea Pass but they are still OK with it. Besides when one cruise ends another starts so they should never be without the tip money.

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
On the Sea Pass card, can you specify an amount for each person you want to tip, or is the charge set to the recommended amounts?

elleluv February 25th, 2005 12:29 AM

Re: Tipping on the Sea Pass Card
They will only allow a charge for the recommended tip.... We generally do that, get the vouchers and then put any additional tip we feel is warranted into the envelope with the voucher.
