Default Insurance????

Probably been covered numerous times before.... Cruising on Mariner for one week in July from Port Carnaveral. Home is Rochester NY. Booked my own air. 4 family members, two cabins.

Should we get insurance?

Any recommended companies?

What to ask/check out when I pursue?

Appreciate your help.

GET IT !!

I have always got insurance in the past. I know I just signed up when I booked thru the travel agent or thru RCCL. I took their recommendations. For the last cruise that I booked in September, I did not get insurance. I just figured I had always got insurance and nothing ever happened. I just knew nothing could keep me from this cruise.

Think again!! The hurricanes came and all reports showed my cruise as a go. The only problem was that the airports were all closed. This is all I knew until the very end. I was so upset that my cruise was on and I could not get there. Luckily, RCCL said that anyone who cancelled could get a refund because the ship was delayed and would leave on a different day. After that day, I will never go without insurance. I came too close to losing all my money. I figure that insurance is not that much so I will always get it. I never want to be close to losing my money ever again.

When in July are you traveling? I am leaving July 10th on the Mariner. I am wondering the same thing about the insurance. I probably be getting my insurance through Travelguard. They seem too be the best for me.

No one likes to throw good money away, but yes, you need insurance!
For all the what if's...Get sick, need air-vac, break leg, or you name it.
First call your health insurance provider, ask them about coverage while on your trip. Almost all U.S. Health Ins. Companies will not cover overseas trips, not even to the Bahamas. Next go to www.insuremytrip.com. or even call them.
We chose a basic policy but upgraded the $ amounts. Great deal for us and cheaper than purchasing it through the cruiselines. For a family of 6, with each $500,000 worth of coverage, it only cost us $192.00. And it's through a Primary company.
That means they pay us directly, not anyone else. They also do wait to kick in if your health care insurance might cover you. Check it out, it's worth the peace of mind!

Sorry I need to edit my last post. I was too excited and mis-spelled something .
The primary insurance with Travelex, does not wait for any other party to pay up. They pay up right away. So this is a great piece of mind when you are traveling abroad and even better if kids are invovled.

Okay I will be the dissenter. It's not that I never get it but it depends on where I am going. Russia, got it but Hawaii, nope. The closer I am to the continental US, the more of a waste the insurance seems to be. I have over 2 dozen cruises under my belt and so I also look at it as being self insured. We were even booked on "Renaissance" for a $6,000 cruise when it went bankrupt and they had received payment in full up front. BUT since I paid via credit card, I received a full refund plus interest!

Could I end up spending the thousands of dollars I have saved over the years? Sure, but much to the industry's chagrin, being self-insured is cheaper.

Never, never, never, never, never leave home without it. It is too risky to leave your money, health, and family, if not just yourself, at risk. Anything can happen!! Always get it!!

After asll the years of paying for insurance, I learned first hand why. My husband died one month before our cruise. Got all my money back except the cost of insurance.
All insurance is a crap shot but I don't believe in taking the chance.
