My parents are taking us on a Mediterranean cruise later in the year, and tell me that it'll be common for guys to wear speedos. Given that I swim competitively, my parents say I should not have any hesitation, but somehow I am. But, also at the same time would like to "experiment" with this kind of swim wear outside of the pool environment.
Has anyone been on the Splendour of the Seas on the Mediterranean excursion? Will I feel out of place (as if I was on an American cruise)? Also, any comments on speedos on cruises?
I think they will help with a bette tan line, and might help in attracting attention of some some girls. Should I be brave and wear my speedos (chances are I won't meet anyone I know)?
I can't wait to see the response to this question. My vote is no, please don't. Honestly, women don't find them attractive. It is a European thing I know and have seen men wear them but I always see women snicker when the men walk by. JMHO.

Go ahead. I wear mine all the time. I usually go to the Windjammer for breakfast and save a banana to put inside my Speedo so I am not affected by shrinkage after getting out of the pool. See my picture in my Speedo.....

Thanks, Desta4. You want a tropical drink?? Well here you go..... I prefer Budweiser.
Maryjorunyon, Have a great time. This is one of my favorite ships. That picture is just after the belly flop competition on the Soveriegn. You can see the horse race track in the background.

Unfortunately for many passengers, they are somewhat common. On my last cruise, a rather out of shape man was walking towards me with his large belly practically covering his whole speedo. Little did I realize, that was the better view. He soon turned around only to reveal, it was also a thong! Not a pretty picture with his hairy rear end on display. Yuck!
To seriously answer your question, you will see more speedos on a Mediterranean cruise since there will be a higher percentage of Europeans on board. Wear whatever you are comfortable with as I do (always speedos). On my two recent Caribbean cruises, there were men in speedos in the pool areas although more with Costa than with Royal Caribbean. Although some men would look terrible in speedos, they probably wouldn't look any better in board shorts...a huge belly will hang over the waist in both! So do what you want to do and quit worrying about what other may think. Chances are if you are a competitive swimmer and have that swimmers build, the women will like what they see.
To add to CBCruiser's post-- YUCK, YUCK, YUCK and thanks for not posting a picture of that in the gallery.
To add to what kkc says---bring them and regular swim trunks with you. If others are wearing the speedos, then wear yours. Also like she says, if you have a swimmers body, I would have NO PROBLEM watching, oogling, looking etc. at you. <VBG> Just be sure to post a picture in gallery if you do wear them!!!! another <VBG>
Yes, I will be getting a new one for this trip. I am thinking about getting a thong. I will have to wax myself first. I also need to do the tanning bed a few times to even things up.

There are men that shouldn't wear Speedos and there are women that shouldn't wear bikinis. And there are some that do anyway. I think that they don't have mirrors in their homes. When those situations arise during cruise time, I just hope that the images don't scar my kids for life!!
No, the first picture of me in my Speedo has the horse track in the background. Yes, the other is on the Sensation last October. My first and last Carnival cruise. I will have been on 10 RCI after these two I have booked.

I was a competitive swimmer for over 15 yrs. Honestly, even as good looking as some guys are in those things, they really dont belong outside competition anymore, unless youre European. What you could do is wear them under swim trunks and if there are a lot of others wearing them, go for it if it will help you feel more in.
If you want to wear the speedo, then wear the speedo!!! if you want to wear board shorts, then wear board shorts! You'll see both on the RCI cruise although 95% of the guys will be in board shorts down to their knees as it was on my Sovereign of the Seas cruise in September. However, on my Costa cruise in February, there were many more speedos and I was one of them. Just do want you want to do and forgot about the others. Board shorts to the knee would be pure h*ll for me though!
Dave, We are spoiled for RCCI also. We have had some good times on Carnival, but prefer RCCI. Hope to meet you one cruise, you sound like a lot of fun.... Where is the SPEEDO?????
speaking for 2 gay guys..we would live to see a competitive swimmer in a speedo....it would make our cruise....better than the trailer park mammas we usually see in the caribbean sucking down a marguerita
Thanks for the tripical drink...would rather of seen RCC than Carnival....lol.
Anyway it was not and refreshing...I'll take the beer now...Bud or course.
