I am sailing out of Cape Liberty August 12 coming from pittsburgh Am driving up day before and would like to drive almost whole way but do not want to stay right by pier any suggestions for a city along route 80 about 25 miles before pier
I live in Bayonne (Cape Liberty) and would NOT suggest trying to stay on route 80 and then making a way to the ship. The traffic on 80 is crazy during the day and accidents abound. Those 28 miles can blend into hours on a bad day.
If you go to www.bayonnenj.org there should be information on there. I would also look up hotels at the Newark Airport and the Newport section of Jersey City, each which are much closer.
I just read about a sight where you can stay and leave your car for 10 free nights, about 10 miles from pier. They offer free schuttle to and from pier. I looked into it and the rates are $155. per night. if interested try www.parksleepfly.com
Have a great cruise, we leave on 9/09 on the VOS. Good luck!
Alaska- Coral Princess 6/03
Did you know that RCCL has bus service? I believe (?) they have a route from Pittsburgh. I'm not sure of the website, however, we found it by doing a search for Cape Liberty through Yahoo. We are coming from the Lancaster area & it will cost us $72/person, but we think it is worth it.
The bus that you can get does not leave from Pittsburgh. The closest you can catch the bus will be in Harrisburg. That is what we are doing for our 9/23 cruise. We are leaving for Harrisburg the night before and staying at a hotel in Harrisburg to get the bus the next morning. I wish the had direct bus service from Pgh!
We'll be on the same ship. I am causiously optimistic that it will reflect the great reviews I've heard instead of the "Cruies from Hell" stories I've heard, like it taking 3-5 hours to disembark after we get back into Jersey City, Stomach flu, etc...
