Default Smoking on the ships

I did not have a problem on the Navigator with smoking. The RCI do something special regarding this, that I don't know about? I was reading reviews on the Princess board about the hallways and other common areas smelling like smoke.

Don't believe everything you read! Go and have a ball! Its very very rare that you'd see anyone smoking in a hallway.......except maybe someone staggering back to their stateroom at 2:30am who's too loaded to realize he forgot to extinguish his smoke!

I wish there would be a no smoking policy an all ships! It never fails, while your sitting by the pool there is going to be some smoker who has to light up and blow that annoying, stinking smoke your way.Or the ones who sit out on the balcony and smoke next to you. Other people shouldn't be subjected to second hand smoke. If people want to smoke there should be a ventilated room for them to go to away from the common areas.

ronnie,

It appears that you may have been on the "Smoking" side of the pool deck on the ship. (Port side on the pool deck on our cruises). If you want to avoid smokers, go to the Non-smoking side. We've always seen these to be very clealy signed. It's really not that difficult to avoid smokers. There are only a few places left on ships where people can smoke. The cabin, a "segregated" area in a few bars and lounges, and one side of the pool decks. Not too many years ago a person could smoke anywhere they wanted.

I can't believe that people are still complaining about smokers on balconies. The wind has been so strong (even when docked) on our balconies that we couldn't possibly know whether anyone next to us smoked!

BTW, I've never seen anyone smoking in the "hallways" of a ship. Most smokers are very considerate of non-smokers.

Just FYI I was not in a designated smoking area by the pool. Why would I go to a smoking area if I dislike smoking so. And yes, if you don't smoke or not around people who do, you can tell when people are smoking on a balcony right next to you. May be yours was a magical balcony that kept the smoke away. Again, people should not be subjected to second hand smoke.

Hi Ronnie,

If someone was smoking in a non-smoking area by the pool you should have reported it to one of the pool attendants. They would have asked the person to move to the smoking side.

A magical balcony! I love it! Hope we get a magical balcony on our next cruise!

BTW, you may already know this, but a non-smoking ship WAS tried-the Paradise. It didn't work, and they had to turn it into a "regular" ship. The cruiselines would be in big financial trouble if they didn't allow smoking. I personally know several people who would never cruise again if they couldn't smoke.

As long as smoking is legal some people will smoke, and I think setting aside very few places on a ship for smokers is only fair.

I wish there was a designated area for people who douse themselves with cologne or perfume! Or men who wear speedos when they really shouldn't

I read on the RCCL website, and in the brochure, that smoking is permitted is some lounges and ALL open decks. I don't think they have a smoking side of the pool on RCL. I know that they did on Carnival, but I think RCL permits smoking on all outside decks.

fitzla,
I don't remember seeing no smoking signs on the Monarch 2 weeks ago out by the pools but we did notice they offered ashtrays on the Port side and none on the Starboard side. We sat there smoke free.

All I know is that it states on the website and in the brochure that smoking is permitted on ALL Royal Caribbean ships on ALL ouside decks. The following was taking from rccl.com in the frequently asked questions area;

What is your smoking policy?
For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, smoking is prohibited onboard most areas of our ships. However, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have special designated smoking areas in many of our lounges and on all open-air decks. On Alaska Cruisetours, smoking is not permitted on motorcoaches or inside traincars. On Canadian Rockies Cruisetours, smoking is not permitted on motorcoaches or anywhere on the traincars.

Maybe meaning they have special designated smoking areas "on all open-air decks" too! Maybe Harry would know for sure if there were signs....anyway...it was just my observation.

we had some people prop thier cabin doors open and fill the inside hallway with smoke. It was about 4 cabins altogether who did this on our NCL cruise last November. As a positive, I did enjoy the food though!

Each cruise line could easily prohibit smoking on at least one ship in their cruise line. Its a matter of money. They don't want to give up one penny from a smoker who may want to book an available cabin.

I can not prove it but based on my observances only, it seems that smokers equal big
money to the cruise lines. In the casino and the bars especially.

Non-smokers seem to be somewhat frugel. They don't gamble as much, or drink as much, therefore not near the revenu of the smokers. Thats the major reason Carnival pulled the plug on their non-smoking ship. Its dollars and cents folks, non-smoking ships are not profitable.

That last comment makes no sense...smoking has nothing to do with how frugal you are. Carnival pulled the plug on their non-smoking ship because 1) it was less profitable to have a non-smoking ship since smokers would not cruise on that ship 2) it was being re-positioned to a new post were a smoking ship was heading back to Florida. I know plent of smokers who are very frugal and non-smokers who spend like crazy. One has nothing to do with the other. The ship itself was less profitable, and not because non-smokers were frugal.

I am simply trying to lighten your mood. These posts are designed to be lighthearted and fun. You're taking it way to seriously..IE: quoting "Policy" word for word and stuff.
I feel you are scrutinizing opinions and trying to convert them to facts and statistics.

Having a "No Smoking" section on one side of the pool is the same as having a "No Peeing" section in the pool. It simply doesn't work.

Rich (an ex-smoker who didn't realize how offensive it is).

I like a little pee in the pool...warms it up when its not heated.

Is that light hearted enough for you George?

Non-smokers are frugal. Smokers spend more on gambleing and booze.. It's a revenu thing..OM

I am a non smoker and let me assure you, I am not frugal by any means. As a matter of fact, someone I know very well would like me to stop shopping. lol. Its a bad habit, maybe even worse than smoking.

Most smokers like me will put them out if asked nicely or if I see it bothers you, but please don't take away some of my last pleasures.

I would never ask you to put it out Big Craig. If you were in a smoking area, and I did not like it, I would just move. No biggie. Enjoy your pleasure.

I'm a non-smoker...turned into a smoker only when I have the pleasure of sipping on a wonderful cocktail...I hope I can enjoy myself overlooking the ocean without the rolled eyes and smart comments on the deck. As a courtesy I will be sure to look for the signs(Smoking that is). Happiness to all!!!

Eve, as a non-smoker myself, I might just join you in that smoke after a nice cocktail. My partner and I occasionally smoke when we have been drinking.

We all might as well just smoke because the way the world is going with these Terrorist
attacks, we shouldn't deprive ourselves of anything.
It's a shame the good people on these posts aren't the ones running the world. It is so sad to think that there are poeple out there who sit and contemplate hate and destruction and here we are daydreaming about the enjoyment we get from having fun in life. I'm happy to be on this side!
Happy Sailing to Everyone!!! I have 2 days left to wait!!!
