Default Art Auctions?

Do they still have the art auctions on RCCL? We are going on the Rhapsody in November and found them enjoyable, fun and educational.

I'll advise you to treat the art auctions as entertainment, not investment oppportunities.

Yes.. I know some people will swear the piece they bought appraised for 3 times the amount at home, but it's like jewellery appraisals... for insurance purposes they'll value things high. Try and get anywhere near that price... impossible.

Now if you just see a piece you love, and the price is what you're willing to pay, ENJOY!

We have purchased numerous pieces on the ships, and enjoy every one of them!

My only warning is from a mistake we made. We purchased 2 pieces as "carry offs", no shipping availble. Even if you ask and offer to pay, no arragenments can be made by Park West. We ended up flying home on a Sunday when there were NO shipping companies available at the airport, not FedEx or DHL, nada! And of course the pieces were too big to carry on board. We almost thought we were going to have to leave them behind!

We finally saw a guy who offered a plastic wrap service at the airport. He put the piece on a pedestal and proceeded to spin it and wrap it in plastic. We were able to check it that way, but the frame was damaged when we got it back.

Never again will I purchase a carry off, no matter HOW much I like it!

Kuki - we agree with you completely! The auctions are interesting to watch, but if you think you're buying priceless art, I have some pieces here on the wall I'd like to put on eBay for you.
