Default Woman overboard!

How did we miss this one from December 11th?

From the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel:
Coast Guard searches for woman missing from cruise ship

Associated Press and Sun-Sentinel.com
Posted December 11 2005, 12:10 PM EST

NASSAU, Bahamas -- A U.S. Coast Guard plane was searching Sunday for a Canadian woman who may have fallen overboard from a Florida-based cruise ship off the Bahamas, an official said.

Jill Begora, 59, was reported missing by her husband Saturday morning as the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Jewel of the Sea pulled into Nassau, the Bahamian capital, Coast Guard spokesman Dana Warr said.

The ship's crew searched the vessel for Begora before filing a missing person's report with the Coast Guard Saturday night, according to a Coast Guard statement.

"They did a full ship search and there was no evidence that she had left the ship in Nassau," leading authorities to believe she may have fallen overboard, Warr said.

A Coast Guard C-130 plane was conducting an overhead search about 25 miles northeast of Nassau, the area where the ship was when Begora was first reported missing, Warr said. A Coast Guard helicopter found no sign of the woman Saturday evening.

"Generally in cruise ships if people come up missing we have a pretty good idea of where they potentially could be," Warr said.

The cruise ship arrived early Sunday in Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades, where Coast Guard officials conducted an onboard investigation, the Coast Guard said. The findings will be turned over to the FBI.

The last person who went missing from a cruise ship in the Southeast was a 54-year-old Virginia man who disappeared from a Carnival ship in November 2004.

O.K. I'm I missing something...or is this a new trend?

We love cruising...but we are fairly new cruisers (5 cruises to date)

So, if we don't include the obvious: Being sucked out to sea by bad weather, Being drunk and falling over the rail, Being helped over the rail by a friend (pushed!) Or just jumping yourself...How can a person fall overboard?

Inquiring minds want to know

It has been happening since man launched the first boat. It is usually Carnival when you hear this but the most famous of late is RCI again with the incident on the Brilliance with the honeymooners from Conneticut in the Med. Maybe with the trend towards so many balconies, it is easier to go overboard and without anyone seeing you. When you jump over the rail of the pooldeck or the promenade, someone usually sees you.

I heard about this too. They covered it on our local news when it happened and nothing since. I feel bad for her family.

I think we need to start issuing rubber bubbles for people to live in!!!!

My Gosh!!! "Don't drink out of the garden hose, it contains lead!!" I used to do this...

"Don't eat the red M&M's, they cause cancer"
"Eat eggs, they're good for you"
"Don't eat eggs, they have too much cholesterol!!"

I just assume drink!!!!! That's my diagnosis!

What do they clean wounds with?? Alcohol?? So if you drink enough, you won't get sick right?? Lol

I don't believe it!.
We set sail on 12-11-05 on the Jewel. We arrived at the port about noon. There was no evidence of any problems. However, we were scheduled to salil at 5:0p.m., but didn't sail until we were eating dinner. We had the first seating. I think we sailed about 7:00 p.m.

Default Woman missing

We also sailed Jewel on 12/11 and heard about the missing woman when we turned on the t.v. in our cabin later that evening. She was on the cruise preceding ours. Never heard any talk about it on the ship.
