Default Does swimwear attire matter?

I will be going on my first cruise - ever! I know about the dinning room dress codes as this is posted every where, but my concern is what swimwear to wear at the pools, deck and beaches during excursions?

I'm a regular at my local swim club, and have no qualms wearing a speedo for its functionality; and its practicality for tanning. Given how Americans' view speedos differently, will I be given a hard time should I wear my speedos on this cruise, or have all the speedo critisims I've heard been just bad hearsay?

Thanks for any insights.

I would say that you can wear just about anything you want to swim or sunbathe in, but if you are going to be elsewhere on the ship, like the lounge or Windjammer, you should probably wear some kind of cover-up.

Nobody will give you a hard time. Just be sure you don't give anyone else a "hard" time. Wear what you want, it only matters to you and those who see you so don't worry about it. Do you look better than this in your speedo? I am in the yellow. The speedo wearer was the hit in the belly flop and the crowd roared (or laughed, I forget which)

I'm A LOT leaner. I'm 5'6" and 130lbs with a 30 inch waist. Unfortunately I don't have a speedo shot on a cruise to post here. May be I'll do so after the cruise for your comments!!!!

Dave the Wave...Have you considered going into the designing and selling of speedos to wear on cruise ships ? (VBG)

you can call your line "Make Cruising Waves with Dave's"

You can have Brittany do your commercials where she endorses your swimwear and make enough money for both your son's education and to build your and Brittany's dream home in Hawaii where you will host your annual "Belly Flop at Sea" contest sponsored by Royal Caribbean !!

Great Idea Venice! I used to be on a swim team and have worn my share of Speedos. In fact, I have Speedo goggles and Speedo flip flops. I have been experimenting with a thong at the local beach to gauge reactions. So far they have been positive and I am now considering a thong for my next cruise. Speedos are more functional for swimming but thongs are more of a style or fashion statement and generally get more stares.

Good thing I got that Remington hair trimmer for Christmas along with my lump of coal. I got a little carried away with trimming some unwanted body hair and had to go a little closer than I first intended but it will grow back.

Yeah, I remember those days. Unfortunately, when I had a 30 inch waist, I was 11 years old....... You know what they say - a waist is a terrible thing to mind.

Dave the Wave..I suggest you travel to the beaches of Greece to beta test your thong wear prior to subjecting the millions of American to your latest fashion statement...the beaches of Greece are known for their "progressive" attitude towards that type of swimwear

plus, I think you will enjoy the more relax attire of European women

I have a 33" waist and am 5'7" but weigh 185. Where do you think the extra weight is? That's why I can't wear a speedo.... I haven't weighed 130 since I was 13.

From the picture of you (waist up), one could only hazard a guess you must have huge thighs!

after reviewing the pictures, I think perhaps the extra weight is actually in his wallet (VBG)

Neither the thighs or the wallet. It may be the rocks in my head. I was wearing my thong under these shorts....

The long shorts cover my big thighs and give me room for my wallet. My wallet won't fit in the thong.

Dave, that makes sense..perhaps you should give some fashion pointers to the love of your life Brittany, since she made the top of the worse dress list

your last picture posted should be forwarded to the marketing department for Royal Caribbean for use in one of their future cruise brochures featuring the SOS

Venice,

The pho-dogs always catch Britney at inopportune times. She normally dresses better than that. We are getting matching thongs for our next cruise. We may take a Carnival cruise so we can go up to the topless deck. She has been getting back into shape after the baby. Cameras are not allowed up there so we may have some privacy.

Isn't it funny how everytime someone brings up Speedos it turns into this long thread where inevitably Britney comes into topic? Why are people so fascinated with Speedos?

I didn't realize they made so many styles now, even long ones! They are not just for Olympians anymore! (I think I have too much time on my hands)

In Europe Speedos are very popular for men..you should feel very proud that you can still wear them..most men over 21 can't

Stick with your Speedo. Trust me, it makes no difference if you're wearing Speedo, Lands End or a $300 suit from Neimans.

Ann..as the leader of our group and the moral center of our universe you should support our effort to have Dave the Wave model the full body swim suits that men use to wear in the turn of the century on the board walk in Atlantic City (VBG)

Mr Wave, Sorry to intrude on your fashipn show (WOW! I had to print those!). I had a quick question . . ok a few of them . . .

What is the pool side atmosphere like on RCI, Voyager of the SEas, Eastern Caribbean?? No elevator music right? Any live bands?

Is there a buffet open for all 3 meals? I was on the RCI website and it shows the breakfast and lunch but nothing for dinner. When we get off the islands we sometimes just want to grab a quick bite before heading our spot at the pool.

We've never cruised RCI -only a few on Carnival. Had considered Celebrity but found that they were a bit formal for us.

Thanks for your speedo . . oops . . I mean help!

Happycruiser,

I have not yet been on the Voyager class. But I am sure the atomosphere is similar to other RCI ships right down to the pool games. There is always some caribbean type live band by the pool that plays throughout the afternoon. Yes, the Windjammer is open for all three meals for a buffet. Come back have some food and still make the dining room for dinner later.

Have a lovely cruise!

I was recently on the Voyageur of the Seas, and there were a number of men in speedos - myself included.

Went to the beaches, and there were many more in speedos.

Wear what you want, but if in speedos, be prepared to be photographed! I was nabbed at least a dozen times! I'm looking to see if any are posted here!

If you were photoged it may be posted here; DTW's other thread devoted to speedos.
