Default Want a window, not a port hole

I have cruised on Carnival and Holland America. Carnival has big windows but our cabin on HA only had a port hole. My step mom is somewhat claustrophobic and wants a big window. Are the windows on RCI big? Do I need to request a cabin with a window and not just a port hole?

I don't think any of the newer ships have port holes anymore.

We ususally book a veranda cabin or suite... but just recently booked on the MOS with window only. To our surprise it had a very nice size window. Cabin did not seem small or cramped at all. Booked the same cruise and cabin again for Sept 2006!

Many ships still have portholes in cabins on lower decks.
Even on Monarch of the Seas mentioned by Fieldmouse.

On RCCL, it will be noted if it's a porthole window in the category description, so no worries there. (Most of these seem to be very forward, if I recall)

Default big apple

We sailed on the HA Noordam through the Northwest Passage in the late 90's. The port hole in our cabin was about 18" in diameter.

We've sailed on Explorer and Adventure on the lower decks and had a nice big window each time. Celebrity's Summit had nice big windows on the lower decks, too. Last year on Galaxy we moved up a bit and had a cabin on deck 8. In June we will be sailing on Jewel and I have no doubts the 3rd deck cabin has a window. I don't think any of the newer ships would have just portholes in cabins.
