Default When to purchase flights?

We are comming from California in Aug to Miami and have never booked our own flights before and wondered if there was a time that flight cost might drop or should we be booking now? Would love some advice. Any Cruisers from the West Coast??

I would certainly start NOW, and then keep checking and when you see a "good" price, purchase them then, they do fluciate quite often, so just keep an eye out. Its a good idea to check the discount sites and then compare to the actual airline sites.

I find I usually get the best deals by booking about four months away, unless its a holiday or school vacation week and then I book ASAP.

I agree with Donna, start looking now. If you belong to a Frequent Flier account with any of the airlines, sometimes you can get a reduced ticket/free ticket. Or if you know of anyone who flies alot & isn't using their miles, they can have it transferred to you.

Keep watching sites like Yahoo Travel, Travelocity, etc. You can sometimes find a good deal. But don't wait until the last minute to book.

Elaine:

I would also recommend flying in the day before and staying overnight in Miami. Coming from the west coast its a long trip and you don't want to miss the ship if there is a delay anywhere. JMO

start looking now, go to the discount sites(Travelocity, Expedia etc) see what they are showing for fares, check out the discount airlines, like Southwest, JetBlue, you can usually get your fares cheaper by booking direct with the airline. Southwest doesn't fly into Miami - they fly into Ft. Lauderdale- which is something to look into, its much cheaper and easier to fly into Ft. Lauderdale than Miami. Since you are coming from the West coast, you really have to fly in the day before right??

Thank you for all your help. Yes we are planning on doing a 2 day pre Cruise staying at the Holiday Inn.When We Cruised 5 yrs ago we used the Cruise line fly pakage and didn't get to Our Hotel until almost 1:00am the night before sail. So this time around we would love to see a little bit of Miami . We still have debated on FL and Rent a Car for the two days . Or Fly into Miami take a taxi to the hotel and only rent a Car for one day...such a delema .

its really your personal choice about Ft.Lauderdale or Miami, do some research compare prices and see which way comes out cheaper for you

Elaine,
We found great rates to FLL on JetBlue. We booked 6 months in advance and the price went way up until 3 weeks before then dropped $100. I emailed them and asked for credit and not only did they honor my request they gave me almost double because they told me they went down even more.
