Sea days are also my favorite, that's when they have the belly flop contest. Nothing like a great day at sea hanging around the pool all day and drinking beers.
From a day at sea aboard the Enchantment in November. 40 knot winds on deck as we headed eastward around Cuba. Hold on to your hat!

Yes, 30's were good but so far the 40's (41) have been even better now that I am single again!
Well Dave,
I've managed to make it through the whole enchilada single!
My uncle and his wife were on their first cruise ever on Enchantment last week...had a fabulous time!!
Okay, will definitely have to start plotting an '07 transatlantic. I'm down with that for sure!!! I'm dream dream dreaming of a long string of sea days!
Hmmmm, I'll have to research who the CDs are. An important job on a transatlantic, I'd imagine. (just to steer back on topic and make Roland feel better. )
I feel like I have cruised enough to understand the role of a CD. But, for me, a CD has had no bearing on the experience.
Do you make it a point to get to know them? They usually seem busy except for being an MC at shows etc. Am I under utilizing them if I am indifferernt as to who the CD is on my cruise?
What am I missing and how do they make your experience better?

Brian,
People have different ideas of what makes a cruise great. Sometimes the CD can play a big part, sometimes little part, sometimes a part that you don't really notice one way or the other, but that still contributes to a great vacation.
The reason I mentioned that the CD on a transatlantic voyage would be especially important is because all you have on those trips is the ship and the ship's activities. A good CD will roll with the punches and have lots of ideas up his/her sleeve.
For example, what happens on a ship full of sea days if you have three days of rain in a row? A great CD will help make these days fun regardless of weather.
That might be a good idea for its own thread...what makes a great CD?
Weather is not important to me. Have been on the Nort Atlantic with four days in a row in dense fog and enjoyed each day, without seeing CD.
Or on another crossing with six days in storm and loved it. Never saw the CD on that trip (because there wasn´t any )
Thanks Tracy. You are right it would make a great thread.
Based on your cruise enthusiam, I bet if it was rainy or sunny, you would have a good time anyway.
You made me think. A good or bad CD would make a real difference in a situation like the Port Strike in Barcelona with the Brilliance of the Seas or some other mis-hap.
Anyway, I never really paid much attention to the CD's. I am leaving on the Brilliance's panama canal trip in less than 2 weeks and I can not wait. I will keep my eyes open to the CD.
Brian

I confess I never paid any attention to the CD until I heard so much about Matt Baker on the Enchantment. Being a big Austin Powers fan myself, it was great fun to meet him. We actually hung out a little bit and I got some good insights into the whole CD thing. I found it is a great way to meet chics as there are definately CD groupies.
His Austin Powers bit was pretty good and the best was during the Newlywed game when he asked this young black couple, "What is your favorite condiment" (in his British accent) and the new groom replied, "Trojan extra large" The crowd went wild and Matt says, No, my man, condiment, you know like ketchup, mustard, mayonaise, something you put on a hotdog, but hey Trojan extra large is good!"
I have it on the Cruise in Review DVD and still watch it from time to time. For some reason he was not onbaord my last trip and the new CD Chris said, He had to go onto a new career" whatever that meant. ANyone else see Matt Baker?

A good friend of mine was on the Mariner last week and was told that James Andrews (who is currently the CD on the Mariner), will be going over to the Freedom of the Seas! 8)

You can still be hot at 40. Age is not the problem. Some of us like me, get better with age. Some just let themselves go. We have a choice in the matter.
I am anxious to hear about your Freedom trip and to see all the pictures.

Oh, for sure! To 'let myself go', there would have to be something to let go of! ROFL.
My sister-in-laws (on the ends)....they are what many men might call "hot". Me (in the middle with mom and my niece)....not hot. I'm not down on myself or anything...just know that most wouldn't categorize me as a "hottie".
No worries...I have plenty of other favorable attributes.
Tracy
(oh, this pic was taken on Radiance this past December)
Some reason I can't see the picture Maybe it is my PC I don't know. Maybe it is your smile, it looks like you are up to something. Yes, there are other attributes that can make up for lack of hotness. Beer usually helps too

Well, now I do believe you are on to something! That much more accurately describes me.

Oh gosh, I actually have what I call "reverse-beer-goggles". The more I drink, the uglier everyone gets. Probably explains how I've remained single!
For sure, Dave, I think we would have a great time on a cruise! It's all fun and it's all good! Maybe I will just have to do a Freedom repeat in '07 (although that transatlantic is sounding really great!)!
You are all hotties. The one on the right though is probably the hottest 8)
I do look forward to the pics of the Freedom. I take my kids once and year and do one by myself once a year. SO with two, I usually do 2 4-5 nighters. This year two 5's. I told the kids I would take them on Freedom or at least Mariner next year. That's is when I am done paying their mom alimony. That will make an extra cruise and longer ones a lot easier.

When will the dates and ports come out for Freedom of the Seas for 2007? Or am I not looking in the right place. I want to book May/June 2007, but can't find anything online. Thanks....
Was on the Mariner this past week and got it from a reliable source (part of the CD staff) that James Andrews will be going to Freedom. He has a few more weeks left on board Mariner... then has vacation and will be going out on Freedom. Sounded like Ken Rush would be taking the ship out initially.... with James Andrews taking over shortly thereafter.
