Comparing the Enchantment to the Imagination is like comparing the Hilton to the Motel 6.

I agree with Dave on this one. (even though it looks like Dave has never cruised Carnival) Any time you are comparing older ships, I think you need to lean towards RCCL. Carnival has without a doubt made major improvements over the last several years but for the older ships, you gotta go with RCCL. I still say the Enchantment is still one of my favorite ships of all time. I think that the ship itself speaks for itself considering that the $rates for that ship has stayed up for many years and not fallen with the other older ships.

Sorry Dave, I just noticed that you were on the Sensation in 04. Just a little oversight. Later!

Yes, I was on the Sensation sister to Imagination.

"You take Sally and I'll take Sue, ain't no difference 'tween the two"

I have found rates with RCI for comparable, dates, itinerary, cabin type and class of ship to be comparable and sometimes better than Carnival.

Been on both. Ship appearance & entertainment goes to Enchantment. Food and staff goes to Imagination. You'll have a great time on either.

While there are many criteria to judge a ship and the experience, if I had to pick the one most imprtant aspect, it would be the pool deck.

Where would you rather be??

or here?

How crammed! Why are the lifeboats in my way? What's with the ugly purple, back and yellow tiles? YUK!

or how about Royal Caribbeans' oldest ship? The OP asked also about the Majesty. This pic of Sovereign will be very similar.

I have not been on the Imagination, but I have sailed on Enchantment in Jan '06. If someone rates Imagination's staff higher than Enchantment's, they must be one of the best at sea.

Enchantment of the Seas is a special ship. She is just the right size, does some great 4 and 5 night intineraries, with a great crew, all the requisite ammenities and a great pool deck. What more could you want?

I've sailed on Enchantment twice, once before the stretch and once after. She's a beautiful ship. I have no complaints for either trip. The staff was exceptional. I can't see how any other cruiseline could beat it.

I haven't been on Enchantment, but just finished our cruise on the Grandeur last week. We were on the Imagination in July '05. I fully expected my RCCI experience to be even better than Carnival (which was good). Surprisingly, I enjoyed the Carnival experience more.

Overall, they were very similar. However, the RCCI staff was often unfriendly, particularly at Ben & Jerry's and Seattle's Best Coffee. Even our waiter was ho hum. Also, the daytime activities and shows on RCCI weren't as interesting - lots of Bingo and art auctioning if that's your bag. On deck, we could never get a chair, and if you got one, you never wanted to get up for fear of losing it.

That said, on RCCI, we never waited in a significant line for anything - boarding, dining, disembarking, and most notably, tendering to and from ports of call. The lines for us on Carnival were atrocious.

I'd give the edge to RCCI for food, which was always pretty good, even in the Windjammer buffet.

As I mentioned, I can't speak to the Enchanment experience specifically. Between the two cruise lines, however, each has its pros and cons, but if you don't expect perfection, you'll enjoy yourself on either one.
