sorry, just thought we might want to keep "everyone" in our thoughts, not just those who sail RCI

I'd rather be evacuated from a little fire than go over a cliff in a bus anyday.

Dave,

I'd rather be evacuated from a little fire than go over a cliff in a bus anyday.

True, but the fire aboard MV Star Princess was not so little. It took out the balconies of about 150 cabins completely.

Norm.

Yes, you are right. I read it in the front page of the ST Pete Times today. But everyone was safe except the old guy with the heart attack. Still better than going over the cliff in a bus like the Celebrity passengers.

DtW,
A fire mid seas, or mid air for that matter, is usually considered the worst by the crew onboard.

while i would never want to experience a fire at sea, 12 people killed while on their excursion is pretty bad too.

Yes, Roland. A fire at sea is the worst but the casualties were light. I'd prefer that over the chances of survival in that bus or on the Titanic.

I have read many books about the history of the trans Atlantic liners and their history. The Normandie tradgedy was a good story. I think this Princess fire has to be among the worst as far as damage to the ship in quite some time. I am surprised a cigarette could cause such damage.

IN any case, I am still cruising in less than 60 days and am ready for a new adventure on the high seas and I hope to fell some movement....

Dave the Wave

This is a unrelated question to this post, but saw you were going back on the enchanment again, can you please inquire on what Matt Baker is doing now, He was a fantastic cruise director, and I have yet to run into a cruise director who was a great as he was, I enjoyed being on the ship when he was cruise director. Thanks A lot!

Dave,

But everyone was safe except the old guy with the heart attack.

They were very fortunate that the fire was not worse. Deo gratia!

Still better than going over the cliff in a bus like the Celebrity passengers.

True, but don't forget that those passengers were on an indpeendent tour that had nothing whatsoever to do with the cruise line. Although it happened during a port of call, the same accident could well have happened right at home.

Norm.
