We have been to St.Martins many times. If you have not been there Orient is worth the trip.If you dont want to go over there you can swim and shop right by the ferry docks. There are two beaches there with bars and resturants and you can use the facilities. If you have never been there at all,you can buy a ferry band and go back and forth to the ship being as the ship is docked on the other side of the bay.The band will cost you $7,that is what we paid in January.
If you want to go shopping the shops are just behind the beach. If you are a gambler there are two casinos in town.
I hope you have a good trip.

Orient Beach is a nudist beach, although not everyone is. There is a resort nearby that caters to this. So if you are the type that doesn't want to see any nudity or have kids with you, you may want to consider another beach.

Course, if you like to watch stuff swinging in the wind, then enjoy!!

Orient Beach is a great beach with lots of goings on. It is french so it is topless, there is One section that is "clothing optional" it is at the far end of the beach and is clearly marked.

If you've not been to St Martin before I recommend Sunset beach to watch the plans land and also Marigold on the French side.

How long of a taxi ride is it? do you have to take a taxi on land or can you take a water taxi? I am booked with a jet ski rental at orient beach and and not sure if i need to get off the ship as soon as it ports or if i can wait an hour or two... Are tenders used at St. Maartin?

AlaskanGrown: St. Maarten is a docking port, you dock on the Dutch side, you need to take a land taxi to get to Orient Beach - its not very far, i think the taxi ride was maybe 10 minutes? I would do the beach/jetski excursion first and then do the shopping. You can shop on the French side after the beach or you can take a taxi back to the ship, drop off your beach stuff, grab a bite to eat, change clothes and then grab the water taxi(really cheap)which takes right into downtown on the Dutch side to shop.
