Default Just back from awesome Freedom cruise

Just back from a wonderful cruise on the Freedom. We had
our 13 year old granddaughter with us, so can answer some
teen questions, too. She had an amazing time and met so many
good friends from all over the globe.

Would never have booked this ship except for her, but found
out we enjoyed it so much ourselves, and we've been on 17 cruises.

Any questions, let me know.

Lou

Hey Lou,
So good to hear you had fun on Freedom, I plan on doing the same in 2 months or so. Is there anything I should NOT miss onboard? How was the food in the dining room and some of the shows, I've heard they are very good?

The shows were the very best I've seen on a cruise
ship, especially the last production show w/singers and
dancers. The food in the dining room was good...menu was
somewhat limited with only a few items being offered as
a main course. Chops, as usual was excellent.

I'm going to try to post a review...hope I remember the
details.

Ken Rush is the best CD. He just "orders" you to have a good
time, to try new things, stay up late, have fun!!

I thought Flow Rider would be just for a few, but can't believe
how many teens, and adults tried it and loved it. One night
was especially for teens..there was a galeforce wind blowing,
and dozens upon dozens of parents signing permission for their
children to use FR, and then watching...What fun. Other times
were designated for boogie board or surfing.

This is not merely a larger Voyager sized ship...it seems much
classier with more attention to detail....very busy, with something
going on all the time. Can you imagine about 12 different lounges/bars
for your mojito, martini, beer or whatever...again, what fun.

H2O Zone was great for kids, and kept them out of adult pool for
the most part. Like a small water park. Sprinkles (ice cream) was
located adjacent to kids pool.

More later.

Lou,
Glad to have another recruit to rebuff these comments when they appear! Freedom really has started to "crack the code", hasn't she? I'm a single woman with no children, and this ship is set up to keep everyone happy, pretty much ALL the time! Kids, grown-up, singles, families....you name it.

The target demographics are well-segregated, yet still have common ground on which everyone can meet. The Flowrider and H20Zones are more than just new "features". It's quite hard to explain unless you have lived on her for a week with a full compliment of generations.

The feedback has been pretty universally positive from returning Freedom cruisers. Comments that she is nothing but a slightly bigger Voyager class seem to come from people who haven't sailed her yet.

Hi Lou,
Glad you enjoyed the FR and also found her "classier with more attention to detail...." than her smaller sisters.
What enhancements would you like to see on the EV? I am afraid it´s too late for the LB.

Roland,

Only time will ferret this out, but one change that may be necessary....expanding the seating over in the H20Zone...maybe even add a small amount of "stadium" type seating like the main pool has.

Anyone with children will most likely want to sit over there to keep an eye on them (or one would hope). We at the main pool were very pleased with how easy it was to get a lounger..thanks to all of the families with kids parking themselves over at the H20Zone. Seemed to get a bit crowded over there, though.

Best enhancment would be larger ports to accomodate the crowds...

Tracy,

Very good idea (as usual)!
Let´s see what I can do about it. Perhaps even on the LB

It's pure selfishness, actually.
The more comfy we make it for the kiddies and their owners over at the H2oZone, the more uninterrupted adult fun for me over at the main pool/bar! ROFL

I find it hard to believe that you could be selfish
But OK, I´ll skip the improvement if you wish.

Oh NO! Make it as accomodating over there as you can!
I'll be totally UNselfish, and buy you a drink one day when we cruise together. Maybe one of Adrian's Mojitos?

Good question SAGJr,
As for EV, she is the Endeavour of the Seas, # 3 in the Freedom class to be delivered in 2008.

Tracy you are absolutely right...that was what was appealing
about the FR, something for all ages. Everyone having a great
time.

Roland, will have to think long and hard as to what could be improved
on future LB and EV . I for one, didn't totally like the new bedding.
Much inproved yes, but the comforter/duvet was stiff, not fluffy like
most found in better hotels. That was the only cabin complaint, tho.
Also our balcony was considerably deeper than we've experienced
on other ships. Nice divider between cabins, too. that gives you
more privacy from your neighbors.

Lou

PS Just found cruisecal.com and can see Freedom live at dock
in Miami...go to webcams then Miami.

Hello Stephen,

I don't think you will get an answer to your question .

This is just my opinion from reading his/her posts, but apparently he/she works for RCI. From what I've read, the "big wigs" at ALL cruise lines frown on their employees posting to message boards. (Then, again, he/she may BE one of the "big wigs"!)

Just be happy that he/she can give us so much good information !

(Or, I could be totally wrong! )

oh Roland...you know that I certainly think of you as a big wig! Oh wait, are we talking about in the cruise industry, or just life in general?

Doesn't everyone love a "man of mystery"? 8)

Roland, I did think of a couple items that would enhance the
Freedom...Since the balconies are so deep, a small ottoman for
each chair would be perfect. Most of the time I used a pillow
on top of the small table for my footstool, and my coffee cup on
the floor.

Also, the duvets are so heavy, warm for tropical climates. Almost
all of the time, we had to find a place for it at the foot or on a chair
since it was in the way. Also it was stiffer and not fluffy like most
of the duvets we find in the "nice" hotels. The bed and bedding
change is super, but just this one little change.

Lou
