Default Enchantment of Seas; just returned

Just thought I give a mini-critic of my recent sailing on Enchantment of the Seas:
This was a very nice boat. I especially liked the pool deck, including the looking glass down to the ocean. (Pic including in my photo gallery - just look for the photo gallery with my sail date: "EOS 9/2 - 9/7/2006"
Special breaking news: New mattresses on Deck 7; boy did I sleep a little too much on the 2nd day (our first day at sea). Other decks may have gotten new ones to, but I am not certain.
Room size; was okay, we were hardly in it except to sleep; did not even spend much time on the balcony, but enjoyed sleeping with the balcony doors open at night and the moon shining in.
Staff: with the exception of the Cruise Director, Paul Riddell and the dining room staff, I felt the staff was worn out and very tired; alot were talking about this was the last cruise of their schedule and were going on vacation, etc.
POOL activities; the pool games and contests were fun, but there were not enough of them. Also the pool band seemed to be limited to the same songs; but heck, I just danced away - during the limited time they were playing. In comparision; Carnival's pool activities are longer, a little more exciting, but I still had a blast. (Don't recall much from 1st day/night on the cruise, unfortunately significant other took pics. Oh well.)
FOOD: Food was great in the dining room, absolutely great. Dining room staff was awesome. Windjammer food was good, in some instances it was great and in others it was down right terrible. For example, the potato salad was awesome, tasted homemade. The turkey stuffing was horrible. The carving area, ham, etc was awesome, the burgers/hot dogs not so good. All and I mean ALL of the deserts in the Windjammer were good. (Off to the gym tomorrow for sure).
THE CASINO: too small for my tastes and the casino staff seemed a little tired. However, I was treated fairly well and will not complain. The slot machines seemed to be looser and paid out more often than I have seen on past cruises. TIP: play in early afternoon between 11:30 & 1:00 pm, that is when I actually hit on a couple of the machines. At night, from 10:30 pm to late, I didn't have much luck on the slot machines and stuck with the table games.
SHOWS: The game shows were funny as usual; however, I tried one dance show, something titled "Let it Rock" or something like that. So I was hoping for well some classic rock n roll; very misleading, but a okay show, just don't get your hopes up for any classic rocknroll, with the exception of probably 2 songs. (Costumes were a little bizarre in one number and got giggles and chuckles out of the crowd). Comedian: Steve ?? he was funny; he had been on Royal Carribean cruises in the past. I was disappointed by one thing in the entertainment area; this cruise was not geared to my age group (shhh it is "40"); as fars as bands and other singers/entertainers goes. There were very nice bands in the Centrium if you enjoy low key, classical stuff. A good piano player in the Schooner lounge, but mellow and low key. A salsa band in the Boleros lounge, which was a little more my speed, but I don't know much salsa music. The night club was standing room only every night as there were some single cruise groups on my sailing, we tried to make it to the dance floor, but couldn't even get close. From what I could hear of the music; it appear to be songs that my 20 year old kid listens to: Rap, Dance & R&B.
PORTS OF CALL: Ocho Rios. It has been cleaned up a lot since last time I visited about 4 years ago, however, the cabbies will still harrass you. We did the inner tubing on the White River and had a blast and then ate some real Jamaican jerk chicken at the end of the tour at one of the hotels. Will do that excursion again, in a heartbeat. Margaritaville, still the same, they had a nice gentlemen making critters out of palmetto fronds and that was fun to watch. Slide was a blast.
Grand Cayman: this has changed alot since last time I was there and they do a much better job of getting you off the ship and coordinated with your shore excursions. (New Margaritaville just opened yesterday; bigger slide than in Ocho Rios). The shopping was still a pretty good deal; but you had to haggle over the price. Stingray City is a must do. I was scared, however, my family members truly enjoyed it. I just floated in the beautiful ocean off to the side of where they were feeding the stingrays and the group was snorkeling. We did the Tour on Don Foster's and it was a good tour group/guides. Beautiful trip to and from Stingray City. Bus driver from port to the Tour boat was a colorful gentleman who sung very well and kept us entertained in the over 100 degree bus; (NO AC, so be prepared).

All in all, I had a blast. Would sail on this ship again and again and again. Hopefully, the rock wall and bungee thing will be open the next time I go on Enchantment of the Seas. Have not developed all of our pics, so I just posted a few from the digital camera. Most of my port of call pics are on the underwater cameras, which I hope will turn out.

Thanks for the great review. We are sailing on the 9th of December and can't wait. We are booked into a JS on deck 8..so hopefully we will have the new bedding in our cabin. Glad you had a good time and enjoyed the ship.

Unfortunately, I was in no shape to play the Quest game. I heard it was hilarious, but that was the day I had my nice long "nap". There was a group of couples that were signing up for everything and they were not shy in the very least, so they made for some memoriable moments. Especially the love & marriage game; the one girl from "Dewberry" was asked what the ugliest part on her man was and boy was she honest; she actually blurted out that it was his "cahones", but she used the english word. They ended up winning the contest by a huge margin.

Nice review but sorry the staff was a little "worn". I was on this same ship in May and the staff was great, much more visible and personable then my previous two cruises. Our Cruise Director was Carly and she was everywhere day and night. Even the staff in the shops were friendly and informative. I too loved the pool deck and we were fortunate enough to have a great band there throughout our cruise (unfortunately, for you that was the last week of their "gig" on that ship). Anyway, glad that overall you had a blast.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. We've sailed on Enchantment before, and it is one of our favorite ships. We will be on her again on 12/4/2006, seems like the same itinerary you did, in a JS and we're looking forward to a great cruise.

Ahhh a cruise in December would be awesome, but I expect that it will be a while before I get to go. Is a JS a junior suite; please let us know about your cruise and how great a Junior suite is.

Would love to see your pics from the Quest. Congrats on first place.
agree with you that Key West is a very short port day; do you think it is intentional, so the peeps will make it back to the boat after doing a pub crawl on Duval? I would love a longer port day in Key West; just long enough to do a fishing charter.

Great pics...Looks like you know how to party! Love that pooldeck. I am counting down the days. On my pre-cruise diet. Switched to light beer and upped my running. Have to get "ship-shape"

Me, too... There is a reason this photo is clipped; I have recently gained about 5 lbs before the cruise and it is all in my gut. So I have to get ship shape because I gained almost another 5 after the cruise.

I wish I could tell you more about Margaritaville; we missed the grand opening by a few days; as you get off the docks in Cozumel you are going to go to the main street and then take your left; you can't miss it; you can see it from the boat; tropical colors, green, red, etc; 2-3 story structure with a big slide at the top; the slide looks bigger than at the Jamica margaritaville.

Let me know about your Belize stop; both times that I was supposed to go to Belize; we got rerouted to Cozumel or the other port Playa de "something or other". I enjoy the "free" dining room food so I have not bothered with the Chops or other fee based restaurants; we have plenty of those at home.....

Yes, HCAT. I am very ready. Five weeks from today. Did Margaritaville in Ocho Rios. Go to their website and there is a little game about finding the "lost shaker of salt" you can print a coupon for a free margarita. I printed quite a few and gave them to my new friends. We used more than one. The swim up bar is really cool and the slide after a few margaritas is great fun. 8)
