Default Anyone on the Mariner recently?

Hi All,

We are taking my Mom and her friend on their first cruise. My Mom was frightened that she may get motion sickness, so we chose the Mariner as it was a bigger ship, and I like the itinerary (we have done this itinerary before and really enjoyed the xtra days at sea). My fear is I have been reading a lot of reviews (which I know, I probably shouldn't). The ones that are good are really good, but the ones that are bad, are REALLY bad. One even talked about "bed bugs"...freaky. Anyway, we have been on two RCCL cruises before and have enjoyed everything about them, however on smaller ships. I like the idea of trying a new ship, bigger, but am now afraid that it will be too crowded everywhere we go.

If you have taken a recent trip on any of the voyager class ships, how was it crowd wise comparted to the Radiace class? Mom loves hanging out by the pool, so mostly concerned about "at Sea" days. Does it get overwhelming out there? Did we make a wrong decision choosing a larger ship? Did we make a wrong decision about the Mariner?

Thanks

Haven't been yet but going in May. Read only the good revires and ignore the bad ones. Those are the complainers anyway. I have also read alot of the reviews and many said it did not seem like there were that many people onboard.

Hi,we have been on Mariner recently. It's a great ship, the nicest that we have never seen! The promenade is great, don't loose the parade. The only think that is not very good is the food but we are Italian so may be our taste is different. We love this ship, it's very big but it never look like very crowed so you can enjoy the pool and the casino is fantastic like Las Vegas style.Renata

Auggimom: We were on Mariner last February. This is a wonderful ship and great crew and staff. The food was great. As far as reviews go, I agree with DTW: a lot of negative reviews are negative folks revealing negative thoughts. If you're looking for a fun experience you'll have one.

As far as overcrowded feel...as with any vessel a lot of people are on all at once, there are only 2 times we have felt the crowds. The mandatory lifeboat drill, and debarkation. One more is the parade in the Royal Promenade, but hey, what really cool festive parade isn't crowded? The rest of the time you truly don't realize there are nearly 3000 passengers on board. You can always find a quiet cozy area to get away from groups of people if that's what you prefer.

Comparing Voyager class ships to Radiance class ships (we've been on both): it's sort of like comparing two holiday parties. A party of 30 people in an 1800 square foot 3 BR rambler will probably feel more crowded than a party of 50 in a 3500 sq ft 2-story. It's all about public space per person. Neither ship feels any more crowded than the other during most activities.

So relax, and go on your cruise knowing you're going to have the best vacation of your life...at least until the next time you cruise

Steve

Default March 2006 Mariner

We were on the Mariner in March and loved the ship! Beautiful, clean, and the staff was wonderful. Previously cruised RCCL Sovereign of the Seas and Enchantment, which are smaller ships, and Celebrity's Constellation and Millenium. The Mariner is a large ship, but we had no problems with excessive crowds, etc. We would go again tomorrow! We are in our early 50's and live in western Kentucky. (sometimes it helps to have a little history when getting comments)
