Pay Through Nose?

Hi all!

First post! Have ben scouring the site for various kinds of info.

Many thanks to Dave the Wave for his unique perspective on...things! LOL

QUESTION: I like my peace and quiet in the cabin. I know about the single occupancy penalty and prefer to pay it; HOWEVER:

Where is the best place to buy for a 7 day Freedom of the Sea trip, without hemorrhaging too much?

...now where is my third morgage paperwork...AH! there it is!

Welcome to CruiseMates, Dean

I hope the 3rd mortgage won't be necessary! LOL I have booked through a TA, online, and direct with cruise line. I can't say that I'm totally loyal to any one method.

If you have a general idea of dates and the cabin category, I suggest going to cruise compete . com I have used them and been very pleased. Your request is passed on to numerous agencies and they reply with a quote, through the web site. They are not given your personal information, and I liked that. You respond to the ones you want and ignore the rest. Good luck!

You may also want to keep checking the "singles" boards here, once in awhile, there is news on a Single cruise...

Having cruised on Freedom of the Seas, I would certainly hope you can find one on there, its an amazing ship.

Cool

Thanks Darlene! That sounds like a good bet. I am thinking about August /September time frame.

If no third mortgage, I'm sure I can get the house sold by then :D Ya think they will let me live aboard until my ship comes in....oi! Did I just say that?

Thank Donna

..and thanks for all the humorous by-play with all the regulars on the board...it gets to be quite a riot at times!

I intend to sprinkle my own brand of wit (Witless?) here and there on a regular basis. Only been on one other cruise and that was WAAAAAAY back in '96, but I'll still pitch in :-)

Welcome DancinDean. Always room for one more. I hope this website will be as good for you as it has been for me. The levity is always great. Welcome. By the way you will find the Freedom to be an awsome cruise.

Thanks...

....jump on in, the water is FINE!

Good Grief!

Me thinks I am going to boycott conversation with anyone who is cruising soon (DARLENE!) ;-) They are just far too cheery and happy to be alive!

If there was a god, I would live on board! Of course, if there was a hell, I would live within sight of the Port of Miami and be a poor soul all my life! ;-)

Dave the Wave January 2nd, 2007 11:25 AM

Dean, I have checked out cruise compete and every quote I got was exactly the same. The variance is when you go. It can vary several hundred dollars week to week. The cruise lines dictate the rates. Any number of TA's, online agencies or the line themselves wil have the same rate. I have booked all three ways.

hehe Aw c'mon :D . Talk to me, pleeeeeze. It's just a "mini" cruise, in that it is only 4 days. I am primary caregiver for my 101 year old MIL. I'm still trying to line up someone to care for her so that cruise can actually happen. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It seems I have had to pass up a lot more cruises than I'm able to book. Such is life, though. I just keep smilin'.

Libragirl January 2nd, 2007 01:48 PM

Dean,

Go to Vacationstogo.com. They have really good rates. The rates change almost daily, so if you see a good price you need to book it right away. My husband and I have hesitated before and the rates usually go up.

Good luck, and have a wonderful cruise!!!

Libragirl from Texas :D 8) :)

somehow I posted twice...sorry!

Dancing Dean!
I was on Freedom at the beginning of December as a solo-cruiser. Yep, it's painful to pay double, but OH SO WORTH IT!

FYI, if not set on one particular ship, RCI publishes "happy hour" specials each week. Some sailings only have a 150% single supplement. You can find the specials (published every thurs or so for booking by the following tuesday) at http://www.creative.rccl.com/sales/h...r_rci_tues.pdf

I also happen to have a great travel agent. The prices are the prices, but he is always on the lookout for bonuses and upgrades, and has very good RCI connections. PM me if you would like his info.

I'll make a suggestion though.....I booked a Promenade cabin on this last sailing, as I thought it would be a good way to save some money without doing a totally "inside" cabin. Some folks love this category of cabin, and it was indeed very nicely appointed. I'll be loathe to book another cabin without a balcony (or at the very least an ocean-view window) ever again, though...no matter how much of a premium I have to pay. I just didn't feel connected to the sea in there, and really missed having my morning coffee on the balcony, watching the sea go by.

Anyway, good luck in finding a deal. You will love the Freedom (I went on her twice last year, I liked her so much! :))

Darlene...

...I take it back!!! I should pay for your cruise!

101 years old? Something we all face in time. My mother is only 65. I suppose it would be easier on me if I were married, but I think you'd have to have a wonderfully understanding wife. Sigh.

You will get your cruise, Darlene, I have no doubt! So tell me where ya going and on what? In fact, just tell me about all your cruises...I'm a sponge ;-) hehehe

ZOTZER

I got to tell ya, I cruised the boards for a while (before I joined) reading the by-play between you, Dave and others. You are entertaining :-)

I'll wager you are a whole lot more fun...than me ;-)

My idea of a good time is sitting on the balcony, feet up on the railing, seabreeze wafting between my toes, and a steaming cup of earl gray in my hand. :-) Of course, if you get me near the "crypt..."

Thanks for the info!

I agree with you: Solo premium is worth it and the balcony is mana from heaven. I hope to line up a junior suite. My trip on the QEII was almost a "low birth", inside and kind of miserable. NEVER AGAIN, besides, I make enough money now to put the kybosh on that! LOL

I will PM you.

Hey! Thank you for chiming in! Everybody is so helpful!

When do I have to pay? ;-)

Thanks for the info, dude!

When you said the price can vary week to week I presume you mean it goes up?
