Default Did I pick the wrong ship?

Hi everyone. I'm new here. A co-worker told me about this forum & said I could find some answers here.
Last year my family cruised on Carnival Valor. My best friend Amy & her family also went. Amy & I had so much fun that when we got home we looked into booking a cruise on our own.
We ended up booking the Mariner of the seas because I wanted to see what RCCL had to offer.
We were both really excited about it. We cruise on May 20th.
Now Amy is telling me that we should have stuck with the Valor.
People have told her that we won't have as much fun on the Mariner. Not as many people in our age group (we will both be 22 at cruise time).
They tell her it's mostly families with young kids & It's more snooty.
I find this hard to believe.
Has anyone here been on both ships?
Did we pick the wrong one?
Hope someone has an answer

Sandy

I honestly think you two will have a blast on Mariner and don't consider Royal Caribbean to be snooty at all. These "Voyager" class ships do offer lots for families, but its also for everyone, lots of onboard activities and a great pool deck.

I'd stick to this one and see how you like it, actually, there is very little to not like.

Have fun!

Thank you Donna for your quick response.
I know I will have fun. I'm just trying to convince my friend to at least go into it with an open mind.
Is there anyone else out there that can help me out?

the fact that you are cruising in May is a plus if you are looking for a younger crowd

Donna is correct about May being a good time to cruise.... school districts are still in session, so fewer younger passengers, but it is between college semesters, so there will be more in that age range. Regardless, you will have a great time!

Corona Girl, since I will be onboard with you, you are guaranteed to have a blast!! I have cruised in May 5 years in a row and always RCI and always plenty of young single people. Get excited! It is not far away. Read the reviews of both, check out the deck plans, photo galleries and you will see you made the right choice.

I did briefly compare Mariner to Glory (sister to Valor) because both are out of Port Canaveral. I have read the Glory seems more crowded and has less open deck space. Also the deck plans are difficult to find your way around.

Just one question for you. Do either of you know all the words to "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"?

Besides, Carnival doesn't do the Belly Flop Contest!

Dave,,,you're wrong, wrong, wrong....Carnival DOES do a belly flop contest,,,at least they have on the last two or three cruises I've been on. (ie: Miracle, and Valor, and Glory) Maybe you'd better give Carnival another go!
Great to read your comments,,,,as usual.

Well, that's a new one for me Ken. See I don't really know it all. Last (only time) I was on Carnival they had hairy chest contest.

Show me pics of belly flop on Carnival and make me a believer!

I sailed the Mariner about a year and a half ago, and I can assure you that you'll have a great time with many people your age on the ship! She's a great ship and has a lot of cool activities on the sports deck, the huge pool deck, the roller blading track, mini-golf course, ice rink and more. The Royal Promenade has a great wine bar and a cool English Pub with an Irish folk singer and a great "black and tan" beer. You won't be sorry for taking that cruise, how do I know? You'll be on the ship with Dave the Wave!!! Lucky girls!

Dave,,,I was just thinking about it, and they don't advertise it as a Belly Flop contest, but rather incorporate it into another activity. It was one of the "contests" used to select the "King of the Miracle, or Glory, or whatever." In any case, I'll try to get some pictures next month when the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I are aboard the Glory. If it looks promising for you to win, I'll let you know.

Later,

Ken

Carona Girl, I have it on my IPOD. What is an album? I have the old CD.

Ken, get the pics.

MSBJ, Glory does same dates as Mariner from Port Canaveral. Every Sunday for 7 days. Alternate East and West.

Carona girl, my sister has sailed the Mariners sister ship, Adventure of the Seas, and both are large ships with tons of fun to offer you. I've known too many people who just love RCI's Voyager Class ships,(Mariner, 138,000 tons) and there are those who prefer the Radiance Class vessels, which are a bit smaller(90,900 tons). Have more fun on Mariner.

Carona Girl: you definitely picked the right ship. So much to do on Mariner (or any Voyager class ship for that matter). I haven't been on Carnival yet, but everyone I've talked to says they're darker and more drab on the pool deck. DTW's pic of the deck show just how much of a party atmosphere you'll find.

Mariner OTS is the newest of the Voyager class, so it has some of the brightest and coolest artwork and paint schemes of any of their ships. We were on last February...lots of 20-somethings on board, so I'm sure you'll find a great crowd.

Now consider booking on Freedom of the Seas (or Liberty OTS when she comes out later this year) for even more to do! The Flowrider on these is great fun to try surfing (mostly wiping out), and boogy boarding on. A really fun crowd on board as well. You won't regret your decision.

Take care, Steve

Great weekend here in St Pete, cloudless skies and temps in the mid 70's. Good day to start working on my tan.

Corona Girl, you have renewed my enthusiasm for this trip. I think I will have a few Coronas today and look forward to being here....

Sandy,

I am glad we made Amy feel good about the choice. You will leave the ship saying, "This is the best time we ever had!" I promise....

Are you sure? I can just picture you tooling around in a Gremlin with the windows down & the 8-track player cranked up trying to impress the girls.
Can anyone else picture this?

I never had Gremlin. Although my dad had a Pacer at one time. Picture this.... from the time I was 18 until about 4 years ago when I got my orange Element, I had a series of VW vans. My favorite of all was the '75 camper I had when I was in college. And NO, I did not buy it new!! 8) I put an awesome stereo in it with a cassette player. We once went to see Bruce in the Orange Bowl and wrote "Bruce or Bust" in shaving cream on the side, well after we washed it off, the message remained as long as I had it.

Actually, my brother and I still have one. This is a classic '70 that is all original and runs like new. This was New Years Eve....
