Default TSA locks for luggage

I have not locked my luggage since 2001 and I am wonder if any of you have used the new TSA approved locks. If so, do they work? or have you had the locks cut off or the tabs on your zippers removed?

I will be sailing on AOS in March.

Thanks for your help.

I have used the TSA locks without any issue on our last two cruises. No issues with the airlines or the ship.

Where does one find a TSA approved lock? I wouldn't mind getting a couple for our luggage.

Thanks.

I have seen TSA approved locks with combinations locks or key style locks. Has anyone used either?

I've used the TSA locks for several years and have never had a problem on the ship or at any airport. Mine are combination style (never saw the key style) and you can get them at any luggage store, Target as noted above, etc. The one time that I did get a notice in my luggage that my bag was selected for random search, the lock was perfectly fine - no problem.

We use the razor plastic zip lock ties on our luggage as can't be bothered to keep track of keys. We buy a bag of colored ties at Home Depot usually found in the electrical dept. If they need to cut them for any reason they can do so easily without damaging the luggage. I never pack any valuables in checked luggage but put anything important in our carry on and keep extra zip ties for the trip back home.

Our Target had them too - they said TSA approved and had a red diamond logo on them.

Just got back from my cruise and used the TSA approved locks and had no problems. The cruise line actually suggest that you lock your luggage the last night prior to leaving them outside your cabin for security.

If you are flying to a country other than the US or US territories you can't use the locks or they will be cut off. The TSA locks only work in the US.

Not true. I have used them in various countries in Europe and South America without any issue.

Where did this FUD come from?

I received my information by calling the TSA Department and speaking with an agent. They said the TSA locks are approved for the use in the USA. I guess that it could work in other countries but I would hate to find out the hard way that my locks were cut off or the tabs on my zippers were removed.

The agent doesn't know what s/he is talking about. Try asking a different agent who knows the regs.

I have been to LHR, CDG, FCO, SCL, and EZE on Virgin, BA, Air France, Alitalia, and Delta. Not a single issue coming or going.

Fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) is a sales or marketing strategy of disseminating negative (and vague) information on a competitor's product.
