Default How do you get to Galveston?

Just got back and am looking for a cruise for next year. The Voyager will be sailing out of Galveston and that cruise looks appealing to me. However, I cannot find a flight into Galveston at all. We live in New Jersey. How do you get to Galveston? If you need to fly into Houston, how expensive is the ground transfer?

You fly to/from Houston, just as you fly to/from Fort Lauderdale for cruises that start or end in Port Everglades. AFAIK, Galveston does not have an airport of its own.

All of the major cruise lines offer transfers between the pier and Houston's George H. W. Bush Intercontinental Airport. Some cruise lines also offer transfers between the pier and William P. Hobby Airport. The latter is considerably closer to Galveston, but it has a lot fewer commercial flights. Bush Intercontinental is a hub for Contintental Airlines, which offers nonstop service to most major cities in North America.

Norm.

A little more information... Hobby is on the south side of Houston, so probably half the distance, closer to Galveston. The primary airlines that uses Hobby Airport is Southwest Airlines, which I love to use. I'm not sure if SWA is an option for you. Some have opted to rent a car, to get to Galveston.

BTW, I'm booked on the Voyager for Jan. 2008!

We rented a car one way; it was the least expensive and most convenient method for getting to Galveston.

The nearest airport to Galveston is Houston (hobby or Bush international) -- 'tis aproximately 20 miles to the port.

Hobby airport is a Southwest hub...about 20-30 miles from Galveston, Jet Blue also flies here.

Intercontinental airport is a Continental hub...about 70 miles from Galveston.

Ya'd think Galveston would be big enough for a small airport.

At least for puddle jumper service.

Galveston does have an airport, but I don't think it is used as a puddle-jumper. Maybe I should start a shuttle service for the cruise passengers going from the airport to the Port of Galveston.

One thing about using Southwest to Houston Hobby, you almost certainly will have to go via Chicago from the East.
