Default Missing the ship in St. Thomas

Ladies - when shopping make sure that you get back to the ship in time. Just returned on Sunday and a female passenger missed the ship in St. Thomas. We could hear her yelling from the pier. Our next stop was in two days in Nassau and from what we understand she had to fly to Miami then on to Nassau and had two nights in hotels to deal with - all, of course, at her own expense. Very expensive shopping. I do't think my husband would be too understanding - I would never hear the end of it.

Yup, that's a tough lesson that some people have a hard time with. We saw a young couple in Curacao a few years ago running frantically down the pier from a taxi they had rented. While it looked like they only missed the ship by 5 feet, the lines had been released and the gangway hoisted a half hour earlier...well after the time all passengers were supposed to be back on board.

Tough lesson...

I've been on a couple where the pilot boat has brought some passengers out after the ship has just left port and they've had to board while the ship was moving! Yikes.

I have seen both instances-people missing the ship and having to fly on to catch up the ship (at their expense) and also have seen people hitching a ride on the pilot boat and brought aboard while under way. That is the chance you take when you go out on your own. A friend of mine missed his ship in Nassau because he was on a hot streak at the casino in the Atlantis. How foolish !

Lets face it these people that are late getting back are inconsiderate of their fellow passengers and deserve to be left behind. There are exceptions as always. In case of an emergency or broken down transportation a quick call to the ships agent in that port may get you back on before she sails. What? You do not have that information with you? Why not? It is printed in your daily activities and usually on the shopping map.
