Default Flying into Miami 8am - what to do before I board the ship?

Tell me what you think (those of you wise experienced ones!)
We come in at 7:45am, we are hoping to get a friendly informative taxi driver who can suggest a breakfast restaurant close to the pier....
Then what ....
Any ideas?
Thanks

As it is quite early; I think breakfast in South Beach with a view of the beach would be a great way to start the day - get a cab from airport to South Beach - enjoy a long leisurely breakfast; ask the host/hostess to hold your bags so you can take a stroll on the beach; then get another cab to the port and you should be on the ship by Noon.
there is a great outdoor cafe but I cannot recall the name of it - that I ususally go to if I am in that area early before the cruise, you can see the beach from the patio tables...

THANK YOU SO MUCH! What a great thing, if I can get the hostess to hold our luggage! That would be awesome!
Thanks again

Here is the info on the place we go to; taken from an article written by a South Beach native: (also if you scroll way down I put the info including menu info)

For a light bite, I like the News Cafe on Ocean Drive. This was one of the first spots to open once Ocean Drive, and South Beach, were back on the map. It was originally nothing more than an ice cream store, and from there they moved on to sandwiches and cappuccino. Today it's a little bit of everything: international newsstand, t-shirt emporium, cigar shop, lounge, outdoor cafe. The last is the best thing about the News Cafe. The world whizzes by while you sit on the spacious patio. The world in this case is a succession of roller bladers, skateboarders, moms with babies, French tourists, and most anything and anyone else. Menu selections are simple and straightforward, consisting of salads, sandwiches, and pastas. One of the nicest things about the cafe is that you are not rushed out the door. "You can lounge here," according to Tony Pucci, the general manager. "We're different that way. There's no rushing. Our philosophy is you ask for the check." That Tony is one smart fellow, because News Cafe is one of the most popular spots on the beach. What else? The key lime pie is a winner, and goes very well with their iced cappuccino, which is served in a tall glass with a dusting of chocolate on top. You may have to wait a few minutes for your table. If you do, just relax and gaze out at the beach. Your time will come

It's hard to argue with South Beach, but determining how much time you have Bayside is indeed just across the causeway from the port and should be what you are looking for.

That cafe sounds great - but if you all say I am closer to "Bayside" I will listen!
I dont know where south beach is or Bayside for that matter, in relation to MIA or the pier.
Do I just ask a taxi driver to take me to Bayside?

Hi!
It's a big two stories mall. You'll find everything you need. You wont be dis-
apointed believe me. Just say Bayside please and you are on your way.

Bayside is closer and is a shopping mall; does anyone know when the stores and restaurants open in the am?
there are a bunch of restaurants: Hard Rock Cafe, Bubba Gumps and many more, I just don' t recall any breakfast/brunch style restaurants that are open before 11:00 am.

I wouldn't suggest walking from the Bayside to the Port; crazy traffic and problematic with luggage and all, so the cab ride from bayside to the port is very short and I am not even sure if you are allowed to walk into the port.

They are on their way already. But, when I drive to the port, I get there very early, get the pick of the parking spaces, check my luggage before the crowd gets there, then relax a bit. I get breakfast from one of the "roach coaches" that are always stationed around the pier. Nothing fancy, but its nice to sit back on the parking garage benches, watch the crowd getting off the ship, sip a drink, and just relax.

Plus, being at the front of the line, even at the cost of a little wait, is always worth it, it is like stealing an extra day on the ship. But after this last trip in January, I'll buy one of those little folding chairs. Wrecked my feet standing so much, my own silly fault.
